Response from Tim Ryan NE OH congressman regarding my opposition to AWB

The solution to Sandy Hook is simple....this is not about Sandy Hook...Sandy Hook is just the excuse. If the government was serious about stopping the killings at schools, they would stop the gun free zones and properly protect the schools....simple. This is step one to disarm the people and there are people within the government that do not seem to understand the term "shall not be infringed". I understand it perfectly and the second amment was not given to me by the government....it is a protection against a brutal government....and if we become sheep and give up our rights to self defence...we neither deserve the freedom that so many men have died for ....nor will we have it....we will become subjects. We each have to choose if we stand for somethin g or stand for nothing. I know, I will never give up my freedom to anyone or any government. The government has nothing to fear from me...I am not a criminal and I have not been arrested or convicted of any crime. They can not take our freedom, we are a sleeping giant. The only way they can take our freedom is if we "give" it to them. I will never do that. I have fought for my country in Vietnam and I will fight for my god given right to remain free and I hope there are many like me, but either way...thats my path. Not to be infringed means what it says.

IF I recieve responses from my Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobachar (both DFLers) it assuredly will not be pro-gun...

My response for Illinois:

January 7, 2013

Dear Mr. Krawc

Thank you for contacting me about an amendment to the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 (S. 3414) to prohibit the transfer or possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices.

On July 25, 2012, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced this amendment. A large capacity ammunition feeding device is defined as any magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has the capacity to include 10 rounds of ammunition, excluding .22 caliber rim fire ammunition. The amendment also would require any capacity feeding device manufactured after the date of the enactment to be identified by a serial number indicating when it was manufactured.

Americans are entitled to own and use guns in a responsible manner. Strong penalties for violent crimes involving firearms should be part of an effort to reduce gun violence. Throughout my time in Congress, I have supported a variety of strong crime control initiatives and efforts to combat the illegal possession and use of firearms.

Although, we may disagree on this issue, I appreciate having your views and hope that you will not hesitate to contact me in the future on matters of importance to you.

Thank you again for your message. Please feel free to keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Durbin

United States Senator

RJD/jv

Well, at least you got a response from Sen Durbin--he ignored my letter to him. Might be a good thing our other senator is back.
