Rest in Peace, Mike Wallace

I never met Mr. Wallace but I did speak to him once over the telephone. He explained that he was doing research for a possible story about the battle for Hill 875. It was 1968 and I was fresh out of the Army, 2nd Battalion, 173rd Airborne, and a survivor of that particular battle where a Marine pilot accidentally dropped a 500 lb. bomb killing 45 of our men. As we spoke, the questions he asked and the phrasing of those questions gave me the impression that perhaps this was not going to be a piece in the best interest of our military. I politely thanked him for calling and declined the interview. He was courteous, thanked me for my time and hung up. I don’t know if he ever did the story. My condolences to his family.

I couldn't stand the way Mike Wallace grilled people...uh, unless it was someone I disagreed with already. RIP. That was a very long and eventful life.

I saw this show years ago where Mike Wallace said that he would not warn American troops about to be ambushed. He said his concern was the story.

Wow. just wow. I only saw a few clips of him in the past, not having watched him much so my limited opinion of him expressed earlier was very naive. This is just disgusting. It reminds me of that CNN guy in the first Iraq war who said basically the same thing, Bernard Shaw I think. For reporters to condone so many distortions in the course of supposedly reporting the news and then all of a sudden act so truth oriented is a joke. But would he have warned that guy in a hoodie in Fl. if he knew what was about to happen? Heck yeah! That said, he's a guy who just died and his family is very sad so I'll just leave it there.
