restoring grips?

Got my first Smith revolver several months ago, a gorgeous 19-3 shooter but it had patchmeyers and I really wanted some factory wood stocks. I found an awesome old take off set on ebay that is really dark and has amazing grain but the wood looks a little dry. Would i be better off leaving it or putting some kind of oil on it?

I would try some Johnson's paste wax or ren wax first and see how they look.
