17 year olds are literally incapable of making good decisions, their brains are still developing, hormones still wildly unregulated. For those who actually believe they were making good decisions all the time at that age pat yourself on the back and keep it to yourself.
We're at a tipping point in America, never has it been more polarized. And the answer isn't shooting destructive protestors any more than it is protesting destructively. The answer is effective leadership that creates a middle ground for constructive discussions and agreements, something that is entirely MIA in today's hotbed of anger from each side.
And vilifying the protestors who got shot to somehow rationalize the shootings is just weak. Their mothers and fathers are sitting at home, emotionally wrecked, their lives torn apart by something that should not have happened. No one on this forum hasn't had a kid who made mistakes, took a while to grow up, and finally got it together to beome a good citizen and father? I had a son who I thought would never survive his teen and young adult years, my wif and I were prepared to lose him at any time.
Now he is an outstanding father of three boys, has a great job that he works long and hard at, and every Fathers Day he puts us both in tears thanking me for standing by him during his 'crazy years.'
No one deserves to be killed that isn't in the act of trying to kill or seriously hurt someone themselves.
Agreed. 17 year old kid was stupid. How old were his attackers? Much older.
Should have been much wiser.
Should have been home in bed, preparing to go to school or work the next day.
Should have been tucking their children in.
Should have known not to go out into the night to cause mayhem.
Should have known not to chase an armed man who just shot somebody, justifiably or not. Kid was surely in shock and wasn't up to making rational decisions.
Should have known not to kick him, hit him with a skateboard.
Should have known not to carry a gun when they were felons
As for the kid, he should have left adult matters into adult hands, who are hopefully more capable of handling them. I saw a video of one of the members of the kid's group claim some cops in a Bearcat told him they were gonna push the protesters towards his group and then leave the area, letting the militia deal with them. Not for one second do I believe a professional law enforcement officer, riding with other law enforcement officers, looks at those Call of Duty playing wanna-he's as anything close to a comrade in arms. They're clowns. Do I think the cops are nice to them and throw them bottles of water? Sure I do. He doesn't have to worry about them looting and burning so he's nice to them. But he surely doesn't respect them.
Yeah, the country is polarized. No doubt. It bothers me everyday. Too bad so much blame is placed on one side where none is placed on the other. Look at the slant of the media coverage. Rioting referred to as peaceful protests while armed people protecting their property are vigilantes.
