Looks like 2016 will be great. Have 4 weeks of work left, 20 working days. Jan 29th will be the last day. Looking for a job 2 days a week, maybe 6-8 hrs a day for the 2 days. It will help me stay busy. I did auto body all my life and hope to find a gun shop to spend time at, part time. I hate cars and will not work on them again. At the local gun club, one morning a week, I want to get the retired together to shoot, BS and have fun. We could bring food if they want also. It's the same club we have the NE Ohio Bunch. That's if the weather (snow) isn't bad. Bought a couple project S&W's to work on also. Any ideas or advice from the professional retired???? I'll be a newbie. Larry

Advice?

Quit chasing wild wimmin,

cut back on alcohol and smokes,

Then enjoy the rest.

I retired 2 years ago at 67. Retirement is so great I should have retired at 62 or 65. Skeered of not working I guess.

Don't miss work.

If there was a nice LGS close I would work there. Enjoy the sales and trading.

Have fun.

P.S. There is a post work stress syndrome where one feels they should be getting up and going to work. My brother told me about it. I practiced being retired for the last 6 months I worked. I walked out the door and it was all behind me and gone.

Congrats on your retirement. I retired from LE in 2009 at 50 years old, after almost 30 years, and swore I would never work again. Spent a lot of time on my hobbies (shooting, wildlife photography, motorcycles, fishing). Eventually got to be too much of a good thing, and decided to get a part time job to keep busy, and "circulate". Its easy to become something of a loner, and lose people skills when you retire, if you let it happen.

Wanted something in a local gun shop. Most of them around here know me on a first name basis, but they are small mom and pop outfits, and usually have a son or nephew to help during busy periods. Ended up at a Gander Mnt. working the gun dept. That lasted 2 weeks...... Way too much BS for me.

Ended up 2-3 days a week with a local auto parts store, doing parts deliveries. Good folks to work with, keep busy, and spend about as much time jawing with the guys at the local garages as I do working. The extra $$ funds more purchases of guns I don't need.

My advice is to remember you are retired, and look for something that allows that flexibility. You don't want to end up with a job that unduly restricts your free time.

I retired Sept. 2013. Started out just enjoying getting up, eat breakfast, and only then deciding what I felt like doing each day. Usually involved at least one nap. A little over 2 years so far and haven't got tired of it yet. Give it a try, ain't bad at all.:)

Couldn't sleep, some good advice so far. guess I'll have to keep the yard up btwn things!! Been counting down since last Jan and figured I could share the last month with the group here. We are family, right? Bam Bam, mark the 23 of April as in Cleveland at the NE Ohio bunch. We'll share the table again with our display. Bring Dave from PA with you. Everything is official on Feb 1st as far as my day of being on a government assistance program. Actually weird being on Medicare right now. There are some funny reply's so far, Thanks. Larry

I wanna be retired.

Does that count? Been workin for Uncle Sam for 21 years, only got 17 more to go! 57 is the magical retirement age for me.
In this order......
#1- Like Bam Bam said quarterly meetings
#2- hook up with Joe and learn how to refurbish presentation
cases...... Or DWFAN or KB.
#3- come down to Newton Falls once a month, school me up on these Smiths and teach me about fixin up the presentation cases. Kinda like a private lesson...... You know, like a community out reach program type thing.
CONGRATULATIONS MY FRIEND!
Bob

Congratulations on your retirement. I quit work March of 02 and there is not enough money for me to work for anybody doing anything. My advice for you is to forget the part time work and carry a brick or a big rock and if somebody wants you to work throw it at them. The closest thing to a schedule or any kind of commitment a retired person should have is eat when hungry and sleep when sleepy. Larry
