Retired Cop Gun Finds New Job

I'm new to this forum, so hey y'all. I'm from Houston and own a couple of smiths. I'm restoring an old cop gun. My 4006 is out of Medford PD, wherever that is. I would seem that scotch brite would scratch pretty bad, but your guns look immaculate. Do you use a really light touch or what. I wasn't happy with the dremel and stainless compound. Looking for a way to clean it up like new. Does the really fine sandpaper serve to remove scoth brite scratching.

Not sure of how others did it, but the way I did mine (I've added 3 more to the stable since writing my threads) was to use the GREEN Scotch Brite pads in conjunction with the entire slide/frame doused with spray CLP or Rem Oil.
The light (or heavy) film will serve to act as a anti-friction vehicle, but will still polish out the scratches. This is not too unlike the act of spit-shining one's footwear.
After the green scum is washed off in the sink (HOT H20 with Dial Anti-Bacterial Soap [the orange kind]), spray it again and start the process over again with 2400 grit paper.
The result will be well worth the trouble. The Mag Polish works nice, but is too shiny for my tastes. The effects that I received are EXACTLY like the old S&W Vapor Hone finish applied to the NYPD NY-1 series of revolvers.
