Return to iron sights after using a red dot?

Have any of you decided you did not prefer your red dot sight and returned to shooting with iron sights? Just curious. I've been shooting a red dot for several months now and while I can shoot well enough with it, it seems like it really comes into it's own beyond 15 yards for me. I don't really care for the bulky feel it gives the gun and most (but not all) of my shooting is 15 yards and less so I am contemplating returning to iron sights. I thought I would get some input from some of you first.

In fact I removed a red-dot scope from my S&W 629-3 6 1/2" a few years ago. I generally shoot 25/50 yards and although the scope performed well, especially from a rested position, just generally prefer to shoot offhand and like iron sights better at these distances. I swap back and forth on my R8 frequently. I get used to the great accuracy with the red dot, then I get tired of the bulk so take it off. After awhile I forget why I took it off and put it back on, then the cycle repeats itself....

If I were only shooting 15 yards, I don't think I'd waste my time with a red dot. I have a couple Ultradots, but they're shot at 25 yards and 50 yards at the range.

I didn't mention that I'm shooting a 617-6 with 6 inch barrel which weighs in around 39 ounces. Add a Weigand mount and Bushnell TRS-25 to that and you can see why everything feels bulky, at least it does to me.

I had both scopes and red dots on revolvers. I no longer use either on any revolver. Just to bulky and for me totally negates the reason for a handgun which for me is easily carried portable firepower for relatively short range. Irons do just fine for that purpose.

I only put red dots on my competition guns. Carry and plinking guns are Iron sights. I did put a red dot on a 617-6 for awhile, but went back to the open sights.

For "practical" handgun use I prefer iron sights. For sport and relatively long range plinking, I enjoy my Venom red dot sight on my Ruger Mark IV 22/45.

It's not either/or. Both types of sight serve users.

No Lasik, i like a dot.. but most of my guns sport iron sights

Shot bullseye for years and had a red dot on my 41. Quit bullseye and now shoot a revolver double action only league. Only allowed open sights on the gun so that's the only way I shoot everything now. It's tough being older, things aren't as clear. Use a Merit Optical Device with bi-focals and it helps. The red dot went on my wife's gun so she shoots better. Larry
