Looks like we need to stay hot and heavy on writing our senators and representatives. According to the story linked below Reid has promised DF that her bill will get a vote. Although it seems likely that her new AWB won't make it to the floor of the Senate, she and Reid are already making contingency plans to tack it onto another bill as an amendment.

Please stay active in your opposition to new firearms laws! We can't let up if we want to defeat these infringements on our rights. We need to be vocal with our elected reps, and let them know that we won't accept any more restrictions that are only going to affect, and potentially make criminals of law abiding citizens.

I fully agree with above, however, Sen. Reid will play both sides of this as a WIN-WIN situation. Of course he will allow a vote on this legislation: it looks bad when you obstruct your own senior party members. And of course she'll be allowed to bring up her AWB as a non-germane amendment: it's one of the eldest senate rules. Will it pass as a whole? No chance. Will parts of it pass? Maybe just the 10-round limit, but it's going to require about 5 republicans for it to pass. Either way, Sen. Reid looks like the good guy in the media for allowing the vote. IF enough senators take leave of their senses and let any part of the AWB through to the House, Speaker Boehner will also put it up for an "up-and-down" vote and it should be roundly defeated. Then Sen. Reid gets to bash the republicans, again, looking like the good guy in the media... all the while ignoring his "no" vote for the overall AWB.

But yes, we need to keep pressure on ALL of our representatives and senators, especially the republicans in "blue-states" and RINOs.

Both sides of this fight are important. We are well aware of the political side but there is also the side of other citizens that are so misinformed. We have to keep trying to educate others. I have two points to bring up, both from work yesterday.

1. I was talking with a coworker who Ive know for 5 yrs now Ive been to his house a few times and we always talk football and get along fairly well. He had the sunday paper yesterday and I went over and asked him if he saw anything in there regarding gun control and he said there were a few things. That set off a conversation of what has been going on recently. He is not anti gun, but not fully pro gun either. He did not see the reason for hi cap magazines or assault rifles but was looking at getting a hand gun soon. I tried to throw out a few talking points from our side some may have sunk in some not. He is not one who would write to any senator or government official regarding gun control but his opinions seemed based more on misinformation he had been fed more so then actual facts.

2. Was what I read in the paper regarding a big rally in DC this weekend for gun control. There was a quote from an older guy that was really disturbing. He said we need to repeal the 2A to prevent shootings like what happened in CT. He stated that we repealed probation so there is no reason we cannot get rid of the 2A. Other quotes were in the article about how "assault rifles" needed to be banned exc exc...
