All lending institutions have to make a profit. Some more than others. Just like the evil automotive, guns and ammunition industry along w/rest of your beloved free enterprise system. Are there vultures lurking, waiting in the wings? Yes, every step of every day, ever day. You enjoy staying in the old homestead and you receive some funds @ the same time. Might not be the sweetest inheritance for the heirs, but they have the option of offering a better deal. Not everyone wants to sell and move somewhere else. A lot of folks are comfortable where they live. It's like anything else in that you need to do your homework, find out all and how much of fees are involved and shop around to see what various deals are available. Then, armed sufficiently w/information you can make the call. I'm also leery of anything hawked on TV, yet that's no guarantee that a better, similar package can't be found that's suitable for your situation.
