Folks I am a new member here. Just starting to get into revolver target pistol shooting. I am very new to Smith Wesson revolvers and don’t know anything about all different models , etc. Question…. I want to buy best S&W catalog with most color pictures and info on all the pistols S&W makes. Would you buy the Revision 4 catalog off of Amazon for around $55.00 I think or would you buy Revision 3 catalog which I think has a extra 200 pages to catalog ? I think revision 3 is around 65.00. Does any one know if their will be a Revision 5 S&W catalog coming out soon ? Maybe I should wait if a new and better catalog is going to be published. Look forward to your feedback. Thanks. Marty

Honestly? Both. There is a lot of good information in each of them.
I bought the 3rd Edition a couple years before the 4th came out and I still occasionally refer to it.
As for a 5th - I don't believe anyone knows for sure but the authors. They are members here, so perhaps someone that knows them personally might have some insight.
Wow, 8 years and only 6 posts? I sure hope you at least "read the mail" here often. The amount of info that gets on this site is phenomenal!

Yes joined along time ago and have been a rifle shooter my whole.
With bad knees now I see this pistol shooting is for me. Walking 25 yards to check target us a lot better than 600 yards. Ha ha ha. Thanks for the help. Marty

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson Fourth Edition is worth every penny. But to be clear (based on the words you used in your post), this book will not help you a whole lot if you are asking specifically about what Smith & Wesson makes and offers right now.

This book is a phenomenal resource if you are interested in buying and collecting used S&W guns and older guns.

The 3rd Edition of the SCSW is a fine book in it’s own right, but it is certainly NOT better than the 4th Edition. The 4th Edition expands on anything and everything that the 3rd contains, and it has corrected information from earlier editions.

Because you mentioned it, I looked it up on Amazon and indeed, someone wants to sell it for $65. I believe that’s silly. I believe you could find it in a used book store or maybe Ebay for $15 or so… if not less.

A 5th Edition? Well, we alllll hope so. And I suspect that if they give that project a green light, this forum may be the very first place that news goes “public.”

If/when we find out a 5th Edition will happen, precedent tells us that it will be a year, a year and a half, maybe two years… from the time we hear until the time you can put your hands on a copy.

That’s my long way of saying that if you want a fantastic book now and you seek information today, it’s a really, really bad plan to wait for an SCSW 5th Edition. Buy the SCSW 4th Edition and tear in to it! :D
