I am new to all this so looking for some advice, I have a J frame model 60 .357. It is Stainless steel with synthetic grips and i am very happy with it. Is there a good cleaning kit you would recomend or is it better to build my own kit?. If putting together my own kit is what i should do what do i need?, Thanks inadvance.

Build your own, eventually you will have one of each.:D

Cleaning rod, patches, bronze brush, black nylon brush, Hoppe's #9, oil. Google Kleenbore In fact at Kleenbore you can purchase a small specialty kit for your .357 which would cover your needs and quite handy. Save your old toothbrush you will use it for cleaning.

There are many different cleaners, oils etc available, but starting out with the above should do.

Good luck and enjoy yourself.

I have found that you can assemble a much better kit with the components mentioned below than the ones that come in a nice pre-assembled box.

Brownell's brand of Cotton Patches and Bronze Brushes, Dewey Rods, Jags & Loops, a few stiff tooth brushes, your favorite solvent (good ol' Hoppes will suffice - or Remoil or Rig #2 Oil for a "one step" cleaner/solvent/rust prevention) and a tweezer is really all you need for a proper cleaning.

I like to remove the cylinder before cleaning it. It makes the task much easier off the revolver and it is less of a strain on the yolk, and ejector rod. To accomplish this you need to also get a good quality, proper fitting hollow ground screwdriver to remove the screw that retains it - Brownell's sells them too.
