I believe that a lot of pistol shooters would like to spice up their lives by shooting their favorite caliber in a great S&W revolver. It would let them shoot a caliber they already probably reload for so they won't have to buy a new set of dies, and etc. The new revolvers should be manufactured on K frames if feasible and accommodate moon clips. That way they would be adopted by the growing number of revolver shooters in USPSA and other handgun sports. I realize that the Model 610 will shoot either 10mm or 40 S&W but that increases the overall size of the gun, the cylinder length, and the weight. I own a S&W Model 547 in 9mm that has a special extractor which eliminates the need for moon clips but to gain wide acceptance this new revolver must accept moon clips because that greatly increases the speed of a reload. If as many shooters like these new revolvers as I think will then S&W should sell a lot of guns. Once they try 9mm or 40 S&W the pistol shooters will be more open to purchase revolvers in other more traditional revolver calibers. S&W should put their top people on this. It's a great way to increase sales and market share. The time is ripe.

The guns already exist.
I have a Model 646 (L-frame .40) that I like just fine for ICORE, but they were slow sellers and were dropped from production.
Doubt there would be much demand, but no reason they couldn't make a run of them.

I looked up the 40 S&W version Model 646 in the Supica book and it is an L frame that accommodates moon clips. Looks like a great gun as OKFCO5 mentions above. Seems to me they just need to re-issue this and offer one in 9mm. S&W only made a limited run of 300 so it is unlikely it was promoted at all. Not a fair test. If they offer it again and a new 9mm version they need to advertise it.

I would like to see the 547 and 940 brought back. But, for your theme, a model 13 and model 65 with cylinders fitted for moon clips.

Let me refine the specifications: stainless L Frame, adjustable rear sight, 5" barrel, minimum of 6 shots(more if feasible), chamfered charge holes, smooth trigger, regular hammer, and wood combat grip.

I would be plum tickled with a 610 in Mountain Gun configuration. The heavy barrel currently offered is a turn off for me.
