I'll leave this unlocked till I see more general political commentary.
Then it will be locked.
2A is all we will talk about here.

Dick, any idea which history book this came from?

Nevermind. I just read the heading on the page.

No, the re-writing of our history and Constitution has been going on for much longer than five years. I have a 5th grade Holt, Reinhart & Winston "History of the United States" textbook from the mid 1970's. Its discussion of the Second Amendment has this as the 2A "A well regulated Militia being necessary to the protection of a free state, the right of the people to bear arms must not be infringed." Note: Well regulated Militia means a trained force of volunteer soldiers, such as the National Guard. The added note after the 2A lets us be sure the publishers didn't want 5th grade students thinking there was an INDIVIDUAL protection of the right to bear arms.

Actually it is settled law. The US Supreme court has affirmed at least twice that the right to bear arms is an individual right and applies not just to one's own home but is a right to carry.

While I do agree history is rewritten to suit certain needs and goals. This isnt really a 100% example of it I feel.

The book shown isnt a history book, its a test prep book.

Its the readers digest version of things written in a way that you pass an exam. So I take away from it, 2nd amendment, right to bear arms, state and militia.

So my guess is that if you can remember these three points, you will get the question on the test correct.

First amendment says separation of church and state. Thats not really true either. However when you take the test...

So, yeah I guess in a way the OP is correct. The student will actually study and believe this stuff....:(

are you f***ing kidding me? just like most of the history we learned in school, cobbled up bullspit sugur coated and laced with lies. after actually reading in my own ventures i found history to be much more violent and the famous explorers that kids read about and praise arent the true explorers that they think they were or even "found" anything at all

How could the changing of words written in the Constitution and the discussion of same in any way be considered political?

And this is happening in Texas!?!?!?!?!?!?! Let us know how the meeting on the 23rd goes. Hope you pack the place. Is the local news in on it yet?????

This needs to be nationalized. Others may be pulling the same stunt unnoticed.

ill check my kids books when they get home but in VT i doubt its a "new book". we even call our carrying "constitutional carry"

I did a brief search to define treason, which this is not, and in hope of determining what the publisher's liability would be if it is indeed an intentional misquote of the Constitution. No results yet...

Responsible letters of complaint and other types correspondence should also be immediately sent to the publisher, authors and the school. This is a line that can and must be defended. Looks like the cat is out of the bag online, at least. The school, authors and publisher deserve an ear full.

Somewhat interesting read:
