Just heard on the news that Doc Watson died.

I'm glad that I got to hear him in person last year.

My prayers go out to his family.

I did not know Doc passed. He was a great one. He and his Son Merle are together again. I got to see the both of them before Merle let the tractor get him years back. Prayers up for the both of them.

Saw him perform several times. The last time I saw him was at the UNC-Asheville graduation ceremonies in 2009. My niece graduated and performed on stage. She wrangled me a back stage pass to meet Doc. Quite the musician. Sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers to his family.

I've been playing guitar since 1965...and every time I saw Doc Watson play, I just wanted to give it up and throw my guitars in the trash!

He was an unforgettable musician...may he rest in peace.

Doc and Merle were national treasures, saw them in the 70's when they were almost unknown except in the Southeast, what a gifted pair of artist..

I saw him and Merle 30 years ago this year. A real shame. And Merle was killed in an accident, what, 10 or 15 years ago?

I saw Doc many times thru the 70s and 80s. Every time Doc amazed me with his picking style.
He left his mark on Folk and Bluegrass music and will be sorely missed.

More like 27 years ago, in 1985.

Doc's influence on guitar will probably still be felt a century or more from now.

I heard an interview Doc gave in 1988 on Fresh Air on NPR today. He said his wife never got over Merle's death.

I had the pleasure of meeting Doc Watson during the filming of the PBS special for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken Vol III" titled "Farther Along".

An amazing man.

The first, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" (1971) includes the audio of first meeting of Doc Watson and the equally legendary Merle Travis, after whom Doc Watson's son, Merle, was named. It was also the album that introduced Vassar Clements (RIP) to the world.

A sad day for sure.

I took these last year at the Blue Ridge Music Center, just south of Galax, Virginia. It is located at milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Never thought of it, but Doc does look like an aged "GWB".
