RIP Leon Spinks Champ.

I followed championship boxing since the early 60's, and the one thing that bothers me the most is past his prime, sometimes a lot, a fighter just has to get back in the spotlight, usually with disastrous results. Ali vs Holmes, Leonard vs a nobody in Vegas, the list goes on and on. Instead of that great record, these are what remain in people's minds. Marciano got it right.

A lot of class when he said of Ali after the fight paraphrasing, He's still the greatest, I'm just the latest.

As did 'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler!

Loved his post-fight interview after he got leveled by Tyson. Interviewer asked Spinks what happened, and Leon says, “he stunned me, he stunned my body...”. With the missing front teeth, the quote was an instant classic.

He was a tough fighter. RIP Leon.

I think his brother, Michael, was a better boxer up until Tyson knocked him out in the first rd  of their championship fight.
Michael Spinks retired after that fight AFAIK, clearly shaken.
