Hey Everyone,

Do I need a riser on my Sport to install a reflex optic? If so, how long does it need to be and how high?

Thanks,

There are a lot of reflex optics out there. Generally, most de well with the center of the optic 2.5-3 inches above the centerline of the bore, so riser height depends upon other variables. What optic do you wish to mount?

I would recommend one if you want a decent cheek weld. Definitely need one if you want any kind of co-witness. 3/8 to 1" seem to be common. Length depends on your optic.

I would tend to say --- no...you do not need a riser, unless you have carry handle iron sights. If you have a retractable stock in the closed position, the elevated riser will block the charging handle from full operation.

Erno, I believe the OP is talking about a riser to raise his optic, not a cheek pad on his stock.

JoeKat, Like others have stated, it depends on the optic and what type of witness you would like to have with irons (absolute co-witness, lower 1/3rd co-witness,etc.).

I use a set of split risers 1/2" tall, on both of my AR's, one I have the Sniper PEPR style mount and I use one on each end of the mount, on the other I use them under a set of scope mounts, in my case to get the proper eye alignment for a good sight picture.
