Rock Island 1911

I am looking for a new, quality, but low price Rock Island 1911. I would like a chart to compare all their models. The Armscor website was not what I wanted (too much screen changing). I have higher end "pretty" 1911's that I want to keep the round count low on. I want one that I can shoot the hell out of and not worry about. Who has Rock Islands and has advice? Thank you in advance.

I have several Armscore/RIA in 9m and 45. They are great shooters and I shoot them alot. Good decision. Also good value on used market like arms list

I have a RIA M1911-A1-CS. Cost me $438.00 two years ago at my LGS.

Love it and it shoots okay for me.

It has a bull barrel so there are three pieces when you strip; the barrel, the spring and the slide plus the pin that holds the barrel.

One is an officers size pistol and the other is a full size TCM Target double stack

They are a great value

However they were not bought so that I could keep low round counts on my more expensive 1911s. They were ought because I held them and liked them

But I am a 1911 addict.

I know someone that just bought the RIA Tactical in 9mm and he is very well pleased with it. His target had a big hole where the bulls eye was from 10 yards. He said it is a bit heavier than the Ruger but all around it is a good bang for the buck. I keep hearing good reviews by people that own them. For close to half price of many good 1911 guns the RIA is a winner.

I was a minute late on a customer offering to sell his commander size in 9mm for $450 with a couple of holsters and 5 mags.. I did get to fire some rounds and it had a fantastic trigger. One that really got away.

I have a RIA 1911 in 10 mm and 45 acp.............both have been extremely dependable!

I have the cmdr. size .45 and could not be happier with it. Have shot about 1000 rounds through it and have had no issues. You may want think about changing the grip panels out. They are pretty but don't have texture and can be a little slippery.

I have a fs GI model. I have probably around 2000 rounds through it. I shoot the hell out of it and have had 0 issues with it. It is a great shooter. It eats everything I feed it. No complaints at all

My 1st RIA was a Tactical full size 9mm. Never a lick of problems.
Next, bought a Tactical II Commander in .40 S&W. Had an extractor issue. RIA CS sent me a new 1 at no cost. Do have a 45 Sig, and S&W in 45 also. No complaints from me! Bob

Have the RI GI commander .45 and love every thing about it but the sights. I just wish they were a little bigger and thought about changing them but I have seen Remington 1911s for about $400 lately so I will probably just get one of those and sell the Rock Island.

As I mentioned in another posting, I saw several Filipino GM .45s at the local gun show today under the old Spanish "Llama" name. Very good looking guns, may also be from Armscor. $429.

I have two RIA's. The first one I purchased about six years ago, NIB from a shooting friend. A 5" Match model. I ran it for a couple of years in IDPA with no problems once it was broken in at about 200 rounds. I was so pleased with that one I purchased a 5" Tactical model about four years ago. I had a gunsmith cerakote it to even out the finish and tone down the rollmark on the slide (since then Armscor has gone to a more discrete logo on the RIA's) and he also cut down the ambi safety levers and polished up the action. The Match has a little over 5k rounds through it an still runs fine. The Tactical has about 2k rounds and no issues either. For the money, pretty good pistols. BUT, my understanding is that older RIA's may be a little spotty on QC.

The full size Tactical was my first 1911. All the upgrades most people want for $50-ish more than the basic GI. It has a really nice trigger, too.

It hasn't been out for quite awhile since I have "nicer" .45s now but I don't have any plans to get rid of it.

1911 snobs like to say "you get what you pay for" to which I reply "sometimes you get more."
