Does anyone have input on the Rock Island Armory "Baby Rock" 1911ish small 380 acp.

I've only seen them online, but I'm interested in them.

Maybe not the best carry handgun, but could be a good trainer for smaller framed shooters or a SD gun for a recoil sensitive person if it proves reliable enough.

Yeah, the Rock and the Browning 1911 .380 both have my attention. I haven't seen either, the Browning is supposed to be out in January. I've had some experience with the Browning 1911 .22 and it's awesome. I can imagine the .380 will be, too.

Must be pretty new, as this is the 1st I've heard of it too.
The main thing to keep in mind with a new pistol on the market would be the availability of mags and other 'extras'. Many times, like with the XD-S, Shield and others, when they first came out, nobody had mags. Since this is a .380 1911, finding extra mags may be like Hen's Teeth for 6 Months or longer.

Baby .380s seem all the rage these days. Colt had its excellent Mustang, then it was discontinued, then it was reintroduced, and now Colt has a polymer frame version. SIG Sauer couldn't help themselves, so they copied the Mustang in their 238 model and now I see Kimber is showing a copy of the Colt Mustang.

I suppose the shocking part is that with 9mm pistols now so small, it is difficult to figure out what place the .380 has in the defense battery. Oh well, to each his (or her) own. And, there is nothing wrong with getting something "just because," but a defense weapon should, in my opinion, be a more powerful weapon. The new breed of mini-9mm pistol really takes the place of the .380 much like the mini-.380s took the place of the .32s.

Don't know about the Rock Island gun, but I handled one of these at Dick's the other day: Kimber America | Micro Carry Pistols

Not cheap, but very impressive. The new Browning is a novel idea, but not really what I would consider a concealed carry piece, though I would like to add one to my fleet of .380's!

Dick's carry handguns now? They didn't when they first came to Vegas.

The most important thing is does it use simple blowback or locked breech. Locked breech is the way to go for minimum recoil.

Dick's added handguns a few weeks ago in Dallas - stopped in a regular on my travel path, and found them with new display cases. Pity they are at retail suggested price.

Outside of resembling a 1911, I ain't impressed for a carry piece. Much prefer the old Browning BDA if ya gotta have a 380.

Ivan, at Armscor says the Baby Rock .380 will start shipping in late April or early May. He also says it is an all steel pistol.
No plastic, composite or aluminum.

According to Ivan at Armscor, the pistol will ship late April or early May. It is an all steel pistol, in the manner of a 1911
as far as breakdown goes.

Don't think I'd pick up a .380 due to the cost of ammo, but that is interesting.
