Chris sent me these pics today of his re-done Model 66. Comments as follows:

Well, she's done! Ended up being longer than what I had wanted, but going any shorter and the cost to install the front sight farther back would have become quite expensive. Ended up 3.5". Hope to shoot it today if the temps drop below 100.

I shot 18 rounds before the thunderstorm turned into a deluge. Shooting very low, may have to remove the C&S rear sight and go back to the adjustable. My eyesight has gotten really bad, the front sight is a blur so it could be me...

Target with the writing is single action, 10 yds, 38 semi wadcutter.

Target without writing is double action, 158 gr hollowpoint magnums. The muzzle flash is inspirational!!

Well she came out pretty nice I think! Like I said, I was aiming for 3" but when you get into the cost of milling off the front sight base, milling a slot, reinstalling the base....it get's expensive. Lewis was very positive about helping me out, so we figured we could go 3.5" and use some of the factory base. Turned out pretty nice I think.
The front sight was one I ordered and sent to him with the other parts I needed, and I got it a little too tall. I can either reinstall the factory adjustable sight and see how that works, or order another Novak front sight. My eyes are getting so bad I may even try to get an XS big dot on there.
If you're looking for custom revolver work, Throne Arms is awesome! You may remember the 3" model 10 he built me on a J&G barrel-less frame? Turned out sweet! That's why I sent this one to him, I knew what kind of work he turned out. Both of these revolvers are excellent examples, and perfect for my needs here on the farm.

Oh, one other thing, Stuart aka oldbrownhat offered to post these pics for me since I'm not able to, and I found it amazing he emailed me to ask how I was doing. I've been dealing with health issues, and I told him that was part of why this project was taking longer than expected. He actually was checking to see if I was better. I've never, ever made a contact from a forum that even remembered who I was, let alone checked on me to see if I was doing ok. My old brown hat is off to you sir!! What guy.

Aw, shucks.... :D Sorry about that (oops... Canadian moment.)

My impression is that people here really tend to look out for one another. Lots of posts about people asking about others' heath issues when they become aware that someone's ailing. The mega-thread classic is probably "Has anyone heard from suziqz?" from a couple of years ago, started by Redbert31. That one "went where no thread has gone before."

I'm getting that impression! I have to go talk to a surgeon on Monday, got some kind of mass between my brain and my inner ear. They think that's what's causing all the hearing and balance issues. Probably explains my ignorance as well.
The one thing I don't like about this forum? All the beautiful Smith's!! I've spent more money customizing the few I have in the last few months than I've spent on the guns when I bought them! Only have one eluding me at this point, a 624 or a 629 Mountain Gun. My standard 629 is nice, but it ain't "svelt"....maybe one day!
As to guys like Stuart, man is it cool having friends like that...
