I had some fun at the range today. Finally had a chance to try out the Roscoes (2” and 3”).

All shots were DA, 10 yards, standing. Come to think of it, I didn’t even try SA on either one. I'm happy with the results below, considering my modest abilities. Trigger was smooth (no grit), broke crisp and reset was quick. Felt a lot like my 642s.

I was surprised that both the 2” and 3” felt (and performed) almost identically. With eyes on the target, I would be hard pressed to say whether it was the 2” or 3”. Good balance and feel. Both hit point of aim if I did my part. The deep blue sight and notch were very dark. I had to move off to a brighter part of the target to sync the sight picture. A little bright orange on the ramp should help. As I inched the grip upward to get better purchase, the groups tightened up and flip became minimal. However, the old hammer bite was there. Possibly the extra ‘padding’ in my hands.

I love the look of wood grips, but forgot how snappy a 38 snub can be and how small the butt is. The Roscoes come with rubber grips hidden inside the box. Next time, I will probably relent and go rubber for a little more comfort …or maybe a T-grip.

Out of the three brands I brought, S&B FMJ seemed to do best. Norma was very close and PPU SWC was just okay, seeming to group a little worse than me.

For the absurdly low price, they are made very well and performed without a hitch. No surprises, lots of fun.

Thanks for the review

I pick up my 3” roscoe today and hope to get out to the range this week. I think the little 3” will be a dandy woods gun when I’m out on the property.

Thanks for the range report. Lots of us here have been curious as how these guns performed in the real world.
Would you mind posting a picture of the rubber grips? I've held off getting one these because I knew those little wooden grips would never get along with my old beat up hands.

Thanks. These came in the box along with the extra screw. The important part is that these cover the back strap…

In between form and function are the Pachmayr/Lyman small frame wood laminates. $30-ish…

Got my 3” Roscoe yesterday

I like it. Trigger is nice and seems to have a definitive wall before release in double action. Since it will be a range gun I swapped out the wood grips for the rubber ones which took some doing but not too bad. The bluing is nice and the top of the frame and barrel are matt to prevent glare
Smooth trigger face which is nice
The bluing is very nice

Now to get to the range and test it out

All told with my FFL fees, background check and tax it was $325 out the door for a nice little blued revolver.

That's the same rubber grip that came with my 3" Taurus 327. Like your gun, it was sort of hidden in the box. The gun had a "Hogue" grip installed on it and I never bothered to change it.

I keep swearing off J-frame size 38's but I might be a sucker one more time for a Roscoe. :D
