I have a S&W 357 Revolver, Model 28-2 with a 5 7/8" barrel which I love, but cannot use it in my club competitions since I've not been able to reload quickly enough. I have a strip loader which isn't fast enough. I need to find a rotary speed loader which would help me immensely. Anyone know of where I can procure a few?

HKS or Safariland speedloaders (I hate Safariland, but that's just me) for N Frames should be available at your LGS and the other sources cited above.

PS: Unless somebody took 1/8" off the barrel for grins, you have a 6" barrel . . .

First of all: WELCOME......

Second: See how easy that was..........

Third: Good luck with your competition shooting........:)

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on using your 28 for competition shooting.
For my money, your best options are the Safariland speed loader, designated N1, or an SL Variant spring loaded speed loader. The bad news is the the Safariland has not been made for several years, and I'm not sure the Variant is still available, either.
The good news is that if you can find some on ebay, or Gunbroker, is that they will probably still work fine. I have been using the same ones for over 30 years and dropped them on concrete when I was shooting PPC and they still work and look like the day I bought them. The Variant's are well made and probably easier to handle and maybe faster than the Safariland N1. Safariland never made a Comp ll or Comp lll for the 27/28 Smiths.
I have used HKS and Dades and neither are as fast or as secure as the Safariland.

It would appear that your choice has been made for you. The only N-Frame 6-shot, .38/.357 loaders still being made are HKS and 5-Star. They are essentially the same thing - twist-knob release loaders. The HKS uses a polymer body while the 5-Star uses machined aluminum (very pretty). The only other difference is that the knobs rotate in different directions and the 5-Star costs twice as much as the HKS.

Twist knob type loaders are not optimum for speed, but they are a far cry better than loading singly or from a strip.

Good luck on your endeavor. There is nothing quite so satisfying as beating a bottom-feeder with a wheelgun.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

SL Variants are still available but they arrive here from Germany in small batches. I see them on eBay occassionally but be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for them. They are, however, the best speedloaders you'll ever use.
