rough trigger pull

Just right before the hammer fall on my "classic" model 14, I feel a slight increase in pull weight. It is quite noticeable if the trigger is pulled slowly. The trigger can be "staged" very easily. I don't like it. Even if the trigger is pulled quickly, I can still feel it. (My 686 doesn't do this.) I've learned that if the cylinder is removed, there is no more increase in pull weight just before the hammer fall. Any idea what's going on? I've done a trigger job following Miculek's DVD. And everything else works great.

Its hand ratchet interference at the end of the da pull. Smith is notorious about this. If you have any parts, try a hand .001 narrower and work from there. Some guns correct easily with a smaller hand, some are a real pain to get right. Some will wear in after a lot of shooting. I am very particular about getting it right, and sometimes have to work on them a long time to get them right. I would suggest a good Smith smith.

I see wear marks on the side of the hand. I guess that's where the interference is.

Where can I find smaller hands? Is it OK to stone the hand narrower?

Measure the width at the tip where it works the ratchet. Try to find one about .001 smaller and try it. Sometimes you will need one .002 smaller and you can try to stone it a little at a time on the ratchet side. Check the timing on the smaller hand. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I assume you are shooting double action. If you are in single action, make sure it times in double action before you do anything. For me, this is the trickiest part of working up a good trigger pull. I installed a .001 smaller hand. It feels better, but still not perfect. I will stone the rachet side a little. Thanks.
