Wednesday I had a cardiac catheterization done, which showed no change from the last time, so that was good at least.

Yesterday I had a kidney stone removed, which I did not even know I had. I had gone to the Drs. because I wasn't feeling well, and learned that my A-Fib was back. He put me on Xarelto to thin the blood and help prevent a stroke, but the 1st day I was getting blood in my urine, so he switched me to Warfarin, and sent me to a Urologist. After switching to Warfarin there was no more blood in the urine. Tests were done, including X-rays and an ultrasound, and the stone was found. It was about the size of his thumbnail and was lodged in the ureter between the left kidney and bladder, completely blocking off the flow of urine. Never had any pain, but my back has been hurting for awhile, which I now attribute to the stone.

I went to surgery at 10:30AM and Dr. broke up the stone with a laser, and then removed all the pieces from the tube. Woke up from the anesthetic with some pain, but not much to speak of. The catheter was removed and I was sent to the outpatient surgical floor to be monitored. Kept trying to void, but all I could do was dribble, even though I was drinking lots of water and coffee. They did a bladder ultrasound and found I had 376 millileters of fluid in my bladder. Dr. ordered another catheter to be put in, but it didn't help, so the nurses thought it was too small or I had a blood clot in the tube. They put in a larger catheter, and voila, I started voiding and got about 500 millileters of fluid from the bladder. Felt much better, but I sure was sore. I also passed a large blood clot, which formed since I could not empty my bladder earlier. Finally went home about 9:00PM. Am on Oxycodone for the pain now, since I had three different catheters during the day and I'm sore as heck. I have to keep the catheter in until Monday, and see the Dr. to find out if it can be taken out then. I also have a small catheter inserted in the ureter to help with the healing process of the ureter. That will be removed in two to three weeks. Am also on an antibiotic and a medication to help stop spasms from the surgery. Sure will be glad when I'm healed up.

Dr. also said it was a good thing they found the stone, because if they hadn't, my kidney would have shut down in about a month and would have been useless.

Man, that does sound like a couple of rough days !

Passing the clots is common after breaking up the stones, according to my doc.

Kidney stones are no joke; glad you're feeling better.

I'm glad that this ended well.

I was hospitalized in July after coughing up blood, and was lucky that it seems to have just been a respiratory infection that was approaching pneumonia. They were afraid at first that I had TB.

I hate hospitals. Seems that a number of us here have seen too much of them lately.

Glad they caught your problem in time!

wow, lets hope you got all that over with at one time. Sounds like you are on the road to recovery now. Tough couple of days.

lucky they found that kidney stone, i get a sound-a-gram on my kidneys every 6 months . i had one that got stuck never want to go through that again glad to hear your feeling much better

had to go to the ER this morning as my bladder was filling up and not draining through the catheter. They flushed it and found that a blood clot had plugged it up. All good once again for now. Told me if it happens again I will be admitted until they can get me through this.

In a way I suppose finding the stone when they did, prior to it causing additional problems was a blessing. Thus painful as that part likely was, perhaps it still can be considered a "good" day in a way?

I am glad you recovered. Did they do a chest X ray or just the skin test?

I'm in pain just from reading that...ouch! Hope you get to feeling better soon. Drink lots of water and forgo other liquids if you can.
