Would like to modify a 29-8 to square butt. Anyone have this done? Gunsmiths? Cost?

I've had the same question for a while now. I don't care for the looks of the round to square stocks or the less than perfect way they fit. Plus I like to see the entire backstrap of the frame showing from the back of the stocks. Could a gunsmith weld up the frame and reshape it, as well as add the serrations that run vertically up the back?

The cost of doing this would probably be in the $250 to $350 range (easily), considering the cutting, welding, shaping, recutting the serrations, and either custom making a strain screw or welding up the hole and starting over. That's not including the cost of refinishing.

The other option would be to find a stripped frame on GB and swap the parts. Even then, fitting a yoke, sideplate, and barrel would be fairly expensive.

The most cost effective way to do this would be to find someone to trade or sell yours and buy another.

AND THEN theres the ruined value of said revolver ontop of the costs acrued to make such a change.

Put it in the safe, or trade it, and buy the gun you want.
