RSR 640-1 Performance Center 357 Mag

Guys I thought the thread title "640-1 per cent 357 mag" would be a pretty solid clue that the gun is in fact a performance (per) center (cent) gun. LoL

I'm heading back to the shop to see what kind of deal I can make.

Does anyone read on here?!
Actually most of us do read. Quite well in fact

I am not sure that any of us had an idea that the phrase "per cent" was you trying to tell us this was a Performance Center revolver.

When asking for a value, letting us know all the facts (in detail) that you know works much better than giving us a "solid clue"
:D

From some time back, Jan. 2011, I found this by 505Gibbs's, Member ; "RSR as noted is a S&W distributor that has S&W make up an exclusive for them. Lew Horton, Ellett Bros., Sports South and Davidsons are among the list as well that have exclusives done periodically. I'm sure there are others that do it - depends on how deep their pockets are when doing an exclusive as to what S&W will listen to. "

I just called Lew Horton, then RSR who told me to call S&W which I did.
NOTHING came from anyone I spoke to. Likely Roy Jinks can supply quantity made info given the RSR____ serial number. Having shot this model I would JUMP on another if I could. So very smooth. Too few around. Maybe 300 + + made? The 640-1 RSR can take 357. I have 38+p but would consider having two rounds in 357 magnum short barrel, low flash ammo just in case. The porting did help me with muzzle rise. There are negatives to porting but I find it useful.

I watched some one GOOD shoot the PC 13 Tam wrote about in her blog. 400 made. The quad porting might have helped his fast accurate POI with the PC 13. BTW Tam points out that her quad ported PC-13 is actually shot, not a safe queen.

Thanks for the wealth of information guys! I am now the proud new owner of this rare piece. I'll try to take some nice photos of the gun when I get home and maybe even some slow motion videos of the ports working while I shoot.

I ended up getting the gun, the box and all original paper work for what I feel was a great price. Less then $750 ;-)

Sorry about the per cent thing I'm not as well versed as I should be.

Ports or no ports it is a rare piece and a great grab. Even more so with the box and goodies. Congrats on the purchase.

Ports on a 2 inch barrel and the unfluted cylinder spoil it for me.
You can buy a nice new, no lock 640 Pro with great 3 dot sights for less.

Great 3 dot sights?? Well, sometimes...

Here are the sights on the 640 Pro S&W sent to me as a replacement gun. I just closed up the box and called for a return label.

Very interesting.

Did yours come engraved? Or was it like the one in the original post?

Is your product code 170073?

These could still be different firearms.

I would agree if the revolver in the original post is a Performance Center revolver that changes things. However there is no mention of that in the post.

If it is a PC revolver it is absolutely worth the asking price.

Yes, same code! I purchased mine new in Alaska in August 1998.
