Ruger 10/22 cleaning

Anyone modified their 10/22 receiver to include the cleaning rod hole in the back of the receiver?

Am contemplating drilling a cleaning rod hole. Looking for feedback if anyone has used the Brownells drilling jig for doing the drilling work in the receiver.

Also, if anyone has a drilling jig they would be willing to loan out???

I probably wouldn't do it. I've got between 10-15 K rounds through mine over the last 20 years. I've always cleaned from the muzzle but I use a brass rod and make sure my brushes are brass also. It still shoots as good as the day I brought it home. Maybe better.

Not something I'd be doing.
I'm not one for cleaning the bore of a 22 much at all.
A 10-22 is easy enough to take the barrel off and clean also.

There are rod guides for the muzzle you can buy that let you clean from the front with minimal chance of damaging the rifling. Also, the .22 rf doesn't really need all that much cleaning.

Finding replacement plugs for the hole might not be all that easy either.

I have an aftermarket Tactical Innovation receiver with the cleaning hole in it.

The jig is $50 a new receiver is $90 with hole in back and Picatinny rail. If you got a new receiver you could sell the old receiver on gun broker for $40 and come out even.

For the last 20+ years, all I've ever done to my 10/22's is pull the trigger pack to clean it and the receiver and immediately after shooting, I pull a Bore-Snake through the bore a couple times to remove the warm soft carbon and lead fouling.
While running the gun shop for 9 years, I saw more modern 22 crown's and barrels damaged from improper or excessive cleaning than ever from neglect.
