So I bought my 11 year old son a ruger American for Christmas. The idea was a decent .223 bolt action with a shorter barrel and a shorter length of pull. He is a long armed skinner kid so I didn't wanna get a compact or youth size. I also wanted to find Somethin with a synthetic stock to help cut down on weight. Now the numbers on the ruger were exactly what I was looking for. The time I had seen one outside of a store, my wife bought a.308 as an auction item. So I found one for a very good price. Got lower end scope for it and some 11$ a box ammo. I immediately went to the range. I shot the rifle off hand at 25 and 50 yards. I was overjoyed how accurate and well it shot. Quater size group of six shots at 25yrds. And little wider than that with five at 50yrds. The sixth shot at 50 was … ah… a bug got in my eye.
