Ruger LCP

I just purchased an LCP 2 days ago. This is my first semi auto pistol in a long time. I'm a revolver guy, have 8 or 9 and been shooten them all my life.

Main reason Ive always had revolvers is I shoot left handed and I'm proficient with them. Many years ago I had a semi auto pistol and was never comfortable with the safety and slide release, just couldn't get the knack of it.

Main reason I bought the LCP was the simplicity. No need for the slide release and no safety other than the trigger. Maybe there are other semi autos like this ? not sure as I normally don't pay much attention to em. Hope to shoot it soon.

Oh by the way I paid $309 @ my local gun shop.

I purchased my LCP today and absolutely love it. Didn't have any problems handling recoil. It's small, light, and works great IWB. Great for concealed carry. Don't even know it's there. $290 at my local gun dealer. Picked up 2 boxes of ammo. He had plenty there. Do I dare say I like it better than my M&P 9?

I have both an LCP and a 638. The LCP is much easier to carry, especially in the summer when wearing shorts. I am a big fan of the little .380s. They allow me to carry all of the time, not just when I am dressed for it.

I got my LCP when they first came out, and really like the gun. As others have mentioned, great size to tuck away. It has a long trigger, but I think it's actually a decent trigger for a carry gun. Mine has good accuracy, and I don't consider the recoil bad, at all... The sights are very small, but for a close distance piece, it really does not matter much.

This being said, I don't carry it much anymore, as I got a Kahr P380. I really like the Kahr over the LCP. Much nicer trigger, better sights, just as small, and just seems like better overall quality of construction. It is definitely more $$ than the Ruger, but I really like it better. I have owned/carried the Kahr PM9 for years, and love that gun, as well. Both the Ruger and the Kahr have had zero malfunctions. If you have not considered the Kahr, I'd check it out...

I can't keep more than 2 fingers on the grip, even with aftermarket magazine extensions. Once I quit trying for the third finger my shooting improved. It's a little point blank defense gun that carries easy in a pocket holster.

Bought a new LCP (serial 372) last August for $250 @ Hoffman's, in Newington, CT. Love the gun and have shot the snot out of it thanks to Dick's Sporting Goods 250 rounds of UMC .380 @ $89 A flawless operating gun for the first 800+ rounds when it began (1 or 2 times in 50 rounds) to short cycle trapping the spent round in the ejection port. Not a true stove pipe, it just would occasionally hang up not allowing the next round its turn in the chamber. Called Ruger, they sent an air express UPS label and the gun was returned within the same week with a new slide and extractor. No cost to me. Back to normal, the LCP functions flawlessly. As posted on the Ruger forum, the LCP is probably not a range gun for thousands of rounds. I have a 9F, 40VE and M639 for that. There are minor peening issues (slide, guide rod for the spring) even on a friend's LCP (serial 373), but the gun seems oblivious to this as it pops off magazine after magazine. It's real strength is the ease it can be carried and it's accuracy @30 feet. I'd love to get my hooks on the new 380 Body Guard, but the current price makes that unlikely. Here, in Connecticut (@ Hoffman's Gun Store), a Raspberry LCP is $250, Black LCP $279, and the Chrome slide LCP $289. Right now, S&W can't touch that.

The LCP is a great pocket carry ...
