Just received the March issue of Shooting Times. The Shooter's Update section says Ruger will now offer the SP101 revolver in blued alloy steel. Chambered in .357 Magnum with a 5 shot cylinder and 2.25 inch barrel. Ramped front sight and fixed rear. Also has rubber grips with wood inserts. Weighs 26 ounces. M.S.R.P. of $719

Been around for a little while already. Very attractive piece. They can be had much cheaper than that MSRP.

Yeah that is what I figured concerning price. Been considering a S&W 442 but might consider the Ruger offered in blue. Can't tell from the pic if matte or glossy blue finish. Is tempting but will have to check it out in hand first.

I've always liked SP101s but never been a stainless guy. They definitely have my attention with the blued version. I've never had a chance to fondle one, so report back on your findings.

S&W aficionados won't like the DA trigger on an SP101 right out of the box. I guess we're just spoiled.

I agree about the trigger, feels kind of clunky compared to S&W triggers, but it's easy to get used to.

But, I don't plan on carrying it loaded with .357s. It's a compact package and full power .357s are hard to shoot well. I would prefer not to try that in a moment of stress.

But it's a kitten with +p.

But so is a j frame, which I prefer.

I had my SP101 moment, I sold it. A few trips to the range and I hated it. Didn't matter what I shot, the trigger was awful.

Now the trigger on my GP100 is an A+ :)

Just picked up the SP101 4". Took it to the range Tuesday, it handled the .357s easily and the full load 38+p were not much more than light 38s. Built like a tank, definitely not a S&W trigger but still a lot of fun to shoot.

Had not heard about the trigger issue so glad I found out. Going to handle a S&W 442 next week. Been thinking of a 38 Special anyway.

I have one of the first .357 SP101's to come out and the trigger is wonderful. This gun in my opinion the absolute perfect platform for a small concealable .357. Built like a tank. Got a pair of faux ivory (read white plastic :D) inserts from Lett way back to dress it up a bit but other than that it is bone stock

Not exactly blued, but here is a "target grey" model they once made. I purchased this one in December 2003.

I prefer stainless, and think the heavy little gun is best chosen with the barrel a bit over three inches.

I own both a SP-101 and a S&W M-60-4 and love both. I definitely feel the Ruger is the better choice in a .357. In .38, not much difference, and the S&W has a more refined trigger pull.

To tell The Truth :D, I think you'd become a "stainless guy" if you carry a gun much in Texas in July and August or live in a coastal city, with salty air. Even more so if you have a boat gun.

About 1970, a CIA officer named Harry Archer reported in, Gunfacts how guns fared when carried in a tropical zone in South America. Think rain forest. His M-60 fared well. A nickel M-19 had a mottled finish and blued guns were hard to keep from rusting, even with excellent care.

I would like to see a blued SP101. I had an SP101 in 327 magnum. The DA trigger drew the attention of tow trucks. The gun with stock grips in my opinion is not even enjoyable to shoot the magnums. I shot three 327 magnums and put it up. My fingers felt pulverized by that steel brut with hard grips. I ordered Hogue Tamers for it and they made a huge difference.
For giggles with someone that wanted to shoot it I would stagger the cylinder with .32 and .327 mags. I just told them hang on tight. .32 is a ***** cat but the 327 is a lion. Like two different guns for sure.
I only had it maybe 6 months before selling to someone that liked the gun. LOL I did the stagger thing with him also. It is so funny seeing their reactions when the 327 fires off.
Many owners of the SP101 do a trigger kit job on them and then they really like the gun.

I do not understand the whole recoil thing. I have shot 38 and full 357 mag from a light weight ruger LCR. Staggered in cylinder and the noise was more noticeable than the recoil between the two. The recoil with 357 was certainly noticeable and nkt something I would want to fire 200 rounds in a row. But frankly it was no big deal out of rhe LCR.

I cannot believe that a gun considerably, nearly double in weight of the LCR that the sp101 is that 357 would be so much more less felt recoil.

Is 327 fed mag more recoil than 357 mag?
