Sold off my Springfield Armory NM 1911 about 15 years ago when I was over the edge with the Harley. The one gun sale that brings me to tears to this day. Anyways I wanted another 1911 for SHTF and didn't want to spend a boat load. Bought the SR1911 right after they were introduced on an LE special for $550 otd. Ridiculous state regs require heavy trigger pulls on all handguns to qualify for import. When I got the Ruger it was 8+ pounds and gritty so off to Clark Custom Guns in Louisiana for a trigger job. Had the front strap checkered while there but no other accuracy work. Trigger was crisp 3 1/2 lbs when I got it back. Have since added several Wilson "bullet proof" parts.

Day off today and me and a buddy hit the range. Hadn't had the Ruger out in a long time so it came along. Had a 50 box of new Starline brass, 230 ball Winchester and 6.0 grains of Unique. Shot 25 at the paper (30 feet, modified Weaver hold) and then switched over to the steel plates. A couple fliers on me. Ya...I know it's not a Colt or a Springer but hey it works. Just beat the rain. It was a good day.

I wish I could do that....LOL. Ever since bifocals I can't do that well with my Gold Cup. That Ruger is a nice gun...

I think the SR1911 is one fine pistol! Colt has the name, but Ruger makes good guns. I've owned 22 different 1911s in my time, of various makes, but IMO the Ruger was one of the best of the ones I owned. I bought mine several years ago, and like you, I had to sell it and all my other guns (medical bills, though, not Harley.) I fully intend to buy another ruger someday, although I want the Commander model this time.

I just bought a Shield .45, which will be my carry gun and all-around general purpose gun, but I will always have a special place in my heart (and safe) for a 1911. In my case, a Ruger will do just fine.

Ruger 1911 9mm

I'm thinking of adding a Ruger M1911 but in 9mm. I first want to find out if they have scaled down the pistol a bit for the 9mm cartridge. Ruger makes a quality product.

I have one with about 500 rounds down range. Great gun. Accurate and
not the first bobble. Shoot it in Wild Bunch Matches.

I've been eyeing the Ruger 1911's myself. For their price point, they have plenty of features, and most of the one's I've handled have also had a decent stock trigger.

I have yet to hear any Ruger 1911 owners wish they had not bought one and actually many went on to own a few more in their collection. Ruger customer service doesn't take second place to any other gun makers.
I have had SA guns and just wasn't impressed with them. I don't even own a SA gun anymore. Not saying SA are not quality guns but just saying they don't impress me. I'll take Ruger over SA any day.

I have two Ruger Lightweight Commanders right now a .45 and the new 9mm. Both great guns right out of the box.

With all this Ruger talk I thought I was on the wrong forum. I thought S&W made a 1911 but I must have dreamed that.

Yes, S&W makes a 1911...several configurations, to be exact. They are nice pistols. Although 1911 purists decry the external extractor...but they work and work well.

Good solid gun. No doubt about it. Congrats on your acquisition. You won't regret it.

I am down to one 1911 and it's a Ruger, Love my SR 1911. It often is my carry gun. Can't go wrong with them.

I have owned a SR1911 Commander for a couple of years now. It is a fine pistol, accurate and has a good trigger out of the box. I have several thousand rounds through it by now and have never had a malfunction. Ruger gives a lot of bang for the buck in the SR1911.

I suspect that virtually everyone's clone of the M1911 is reasonably well made today, even the cheaper ones from the Philippines. The basic design has changed very little in the past 105 years. It just depends on what you are willing to pay for a little better workmanship and finish and more features.
