On the Ruger forum and other places there is talk and even a picture of the Ruger entry into the "Let's all make a 1911" program.

The beauty though of a 1911 for Ruger...that long, flat slide allows them to print ALL of their Lawyer inspired WARNINGS. Enough room for several lines of the stuff.

I just find it telling that for all their wonder-designs and innovations, most every manufacturer finally gets around to tacitly admitting that it's been hard to improve on John Browning's work of art.

You have a way with words and I find no fault in your logic...;)

You would think the one that bare his name would be considered a 1911--maybe that isn't what John M. Browning intended. Then again he wasn't making it for himself.

I still love my non-traditional 1911 by S&W. But hey what do I know.

Let's hope the get it right this time!

They haven't had an exactly "stellar" track record with some of their "P" pistols, or the LCP, etc. etc.

Ruger is not the same company it used to be. I've got to see it work first!

And, by the way, why do we need another 1911? What was wrong with the first one?

It's been known for years that Ruger's Pine Tree casting division has been making stainless frames , slides and other 1911 parts for other gun company's , that do the final machining.

If they'd just replicated the basic Colt, I'd look at it. But the sights are the best thing about this one.

I don't like ducktail grip safeties or the wide spacing of the slide grooves, or the trigger that looks like a piece from an Erector set.

I might, in a weak moment, buy a Springfield, but I really think I'll hold out for another Colt when I next buy a 1911 type.

Someone should make the former Star pistols here, with better QC. Their lack of a grip safety appeals to me, and they had other good features.
