Rule: Always have a knife!

I have a hard time deciding on the 'right' knife & CCW... the 642 is a no brainer. But, which fb would be best, a Bear/MGC Damascus Bowie, a KaBar, or a Buck 120BR??

Okay, more realistic - for those days when only a 7-shooter is appropriate - one of my 1895 Nagants - and a Vic SAK - 'Farmer' - in blue ALOX:

In all honesty, that Farmer is a great pocket knife - and see's some definite carry. Lately, my main EDC knife has been a BM 755 MPR.

Larger knives are usually illegal, unless carried on your own land. Be careful! In Texas, we have to keep blade length under 5.5 inches. I have five - inch blades from Fallkniven (S-1 Forest Knife) and Buck (Model 105 Pathfinder) and Puma (Outdoor and Model 3589).

I have longer knives, but don't wear them unless on private land. Even then, a cop who searched my car and found one might try to make an issue of it.

Of the knives you showed, I like the Buck 120 best. I'm fond of mine. Wish that I could carry it more places.

I really like knives have since I was a kid. I have given away or lost any number of decent quality folding knives over the years that I have finally started to carry a CRKT Voyager, I picked up two of them on sale a year or so ago. As for sharping I use a steel to maintain the edge. If It needs to be sharpened, I use the rods with the preset angles.

It sounds like a 3rd good reason not to go to Georgia. The other being the weather (hot or tornados, take your pick) and then Atlanta. Now a prohibition on knife carry? Thats crazy. Next time someone asks a question about moving to a good state or retiring, remember the knife stuff.

When they passed our CCW law, knives and brass knucks were included as weapons. When some stupid lady state rep (from Louisville, another reason to dislike the place) cried about guns in bars. So the outlawed guns in bars. Didn't include knives, so you can get drunk with a sword.

My EDC knife is a Buck 503 folder. It also says USA on it. Its sharp and I've got a big bench stone jig that keeps it that way. Its in my gun room and every time I go in, I take a few swipes on the stone. Its an ultrafine grit, and it mostly just removes any burr or turned over edge.

You can always tell a knife man by looking at his offside arm. If its missing a bunch of hair, he's been working on his edge again.

I've got so many knives I don't know where to start. But I carry my trusty old Buck, and for no good reason except its trusty. Been in my pocket for a long time. I don't loan it out. My wife does impose on me from time to time, and gets really irritated when I stand and watch her abuse it. If she puts it down, even for a few seconds, I grab it and run. That really gets her going, but she laid down a knife years ago and left it. Never again. Even her dad was mad at both of us over the incident. Her for leaving it, me for loaning it to her. He made the point back then, don't loan your knife. If the person asking for it doesn't have one with them, they lack the common sense to use yours wisely.

I've bought my wife a dozen knives over the years. Usually Swiss army. They do all kinds of fun things. One even has a 1GB thumb drive. Others are credit card knives, etc.

Each of my 2 jeeps has a Swiss army in the glove box. The ones with the cigar cutter, and also a Scissors. I've even got a backup to them if one gets stolen, a distinct possibility.

I even buy and store some interesting knives. I've got a Randall folder! I've seen one other, a buddy has it and its just like mine. Cost both of us a small fortune (at the time we got it in the early 1990s, I could have bought 3 or so RMs or probably a half dozen K22 Outdoorman for the price.)

I'm actively looking for a fillet knife. I want cheap because those are usually flexible.

I've also got a plan for when I lose my little Buck. I'll start carrying the Randall or one of my other high dollar custom folders. And you can bet that if its hard to pry me out of my $30 Buck, it'll be impossible to relieve me of the Randall, WD Pease, or Mel Pardue.

Every man needs a knife and a flashlight. Streamlight makes a Nano and a Keymate. Both are so small you don't notice them, but give off enough light to see in a dark place.

I have one of these on each of my key rings. It's called ResQMe...a seatbelt cutter and a tool to break window glass. It's small and easy to carry. I bought mine on Amazon...two for $17.00

Product - What is ResQMe?

Just make sure you test the window breaker. I remember reading about someone who bought 5 of them to give as gifts, but only two of them actually worked. That's why I went with the Benchmade Houdini and tested it on some corrugated cardboard. It worked. It was more money, but I have confidence in it.

Carried a Buck 110 for years. When working an oil spill usually a spyderco mariner. Now just use a benchmade with the stud on the blade. Have CRS and don't remember the model number. Also sometimes carry the benchmade griptillian. Really like the benchmade knives. I bought the griptillian as a Christmas present for a good friend. Then he calls and tells me be bought himself a benchmade. So I kept it anyway. A good sharp knive is a good tool to have. Frank

I like Strider knives

For small carry it is a Strider PT.

For everyday carry it is a Strider SMF concealed carry model.

Both feature SV30 blades, G10 and stonewashed titanium.

These are sturdy beautiful knives that I work with every day.

When I hunt it is a diferent story. Perhaps another link.

Hard to find a small "Made in USA" folder suitable for business casual.
The Buck 503 never leaves my side.

Not my pic, but I carry a Benchmade 550 just like the bottom knife daily.

Doesn't anyone carry one of the better brands from Solingen, Germany?

I have an older Puma Stockman and a Carl Schlieper (Eye Brand) Trapper pattern that are as well made (better) than a new, very expensive US brand that caters to the boutique buyer, usually collectors.

I carry them occasionally, and a couple of Stockman patterns from Schrade. That's the real, original Schrade, not the current ones coming in from China.

I asked about the Chinese ones, and the usually knowledgeable shop owner said that he's sold few, and hasn't gotten any feedback on them.

I also like the Puma No. 943, which has a locking blade, a saw that will also extract a stuck cartridge in a rifle, and a screwdriver tip. It is additionally machined to open bottle caps.. And it has a very functional corkscrew. I usually have a Benchmade Model 710 or a Gerber lockblade on my belt, but the Puma is so nice that it does see some use.

Has anyone here seen any Queen brand knives of recent manufacture? I've been told that they are the best American-made folders now. (Queen is not the US brand that I find less well fitted than Schlieper and Puma. I've not seen any of the recent, expensive Queens. They do look good in A.G. Russell's catalog.)

Chris Kirk likes the German pocket knives. He features them frequently on his TV knife show which I've got a Puma, but don't remember if I've got any other Soligen blades. I inherited a batch of really good knives when my FIL passed away...Cold Steel, Benchmade, Al Mar, and many others. Combining those with my own gives me more than I know what to do with, but they're fun to sort through.
