Switchblades!

Great thread,Nice Knifes ;) and great pics.

Nobody likes the 6" rule?I think it's cool and adds to the pics knicely.

Merry Christmas,

Very nice knives.

Here in Florida it is legal to both own and carry an auto. Mine is nothing fancy just a three inch Benchmade. I don't carry it much but it is a nice knife.

Oh: I think some states allow one-armed men to carry a switchblade. Anyone know?

I remember reading at one auto knife site, that of all places, California allowed a person with the use of only one arm to carry an automatic knife if the blade was less than 2 1/2" long.

I have a Latama Kris blade that my father gave to me in the early '50's. It is in need of repair because the spring that pushes the actuation button back after you push it to open the knife is broken. Does anyone know of a repairman, preferably one who doesn't charge an arm and a leg?

I have a Craftsman (near copy of a Buck 110) that I can easily open with one hand.

Not a true switchblade but the Kershaw Leek is a great assisted opening everyday carry knife. It has a thumbstud and it just takes a light flick to engage the spring assist. Also has a small lever on the top that opens blade when you press it with index finger. Very handy.

It is not a switchblade but I carry a Benchmade Auto-Benchmite for dress and Sunday Church and find it very useful. It is my favorite knife for everyday carry, office use, etc. When I am out in the woods, fields, etc., I carry a Benchmade Presideo Auto. It is a good size for just about anything I might need to use a knife for. I have fund both to be very well made and extremely easy to use with just one hand. The Presideo has a lock which I do use. The Benchmite has no lock, but to be honest, its absence has not bothered me. Neither knife has ever opened unless I caused it to open.

Foreign switchblade violates federal smuggling law, 18 USC 541.
They do prosecute dealers of same. Domestic can vioate federal Switchblade Act. There is not a LEO exception, that is about use of mail.

I only have one auto folder. It's a Bill Harsey designed D2, built by Lone-Wolf Knives. It is no longer made.

I also have the T2, a non-auto and one of Bill's fix'd blade designs executed by Chris Reeve for PS.com.

Neither the T2 nor the D2 is a practical EDC, as they are not "pocket" knives, but more belt styles. I do carry the D2 when in the woods, along with my demo knife, I've had for 40+ yrs.

For EDC I like my CRKT M16-01 Ti. it's 2.5 OZ, just right for shorts.

"America's First Freedom", the NRA-ILA magazine, shared some of its pages with a knife-rights organization in the most recent issue. Good read.

I carry this Benchmade 585 in a belt sheath and then this Kershaw Leek 1660 in my back pocket occasionally. Neither are true switchblades but they are spring assisted so a flick of the thumb is all it takes. The finger lever on the Kershaw is especially useful.

I didn't know anyone else collected these. I have 5-7 but NEVER carry one. In fact if I buy one I carry it in a bag and lock it in my trunk.
As a weapon they are worthless but with the 'legal issue' it has a certain appeal.

When I was last there, it was certainly legal to carry one with a concealed weapon permit. Is it legal to carry one without the permit?

Those are my two most-carried knives.

That's a heck of a collection of Italian auto's. Not so fond of cigars - my asthma kicks in too quickly. I have a few Benchmade 'out the side' auto's, from a dimunitive <2" 3150 Impel to the 3.7" 9555, but only one 'out the front' auto, a MicroTech Ultratech. To be blunt, they are novelties. I don't even like carrying 'assisted' knives - as I have many easy to open knives. Great conversation pieces, of course.

I love Buck 110's - and have an assortment of their Custom Shop variants. There is no way a one-armed fellow should carry one, however... it'd be as useful to him as one of those early red LED digital wrist watches! Many great examples from Benchmade, Kershaw (and ZT), Spyderco, etc, exist, of course.
