I stopped in at my gun store today and the manager said "There are going to be no lock 442's". I told him I had heard about that and he said they just ordered some from Smith.
Here is the rumor. He said the Smith guy told him they were going to make more no lock J frames. He specifically mentioned the 340.
So there you have it rumor fans.

suspect its true....as the no locks are on S&W web site.....if just a limited run of leftovers....my guess is that would not be the case

I can tell you that in June of this Year I saw new frames coming out of the CNC Machines at S&W without lock holes. So, no these aren't "left-overs".

When S&W starts making some no-lock N frames then I might be interested. Specifically 44 Special and 45 ACP.

Btw, my 9mm M&P came with no lock so Smith is making guns both ways. At least in the M&P series.

I wasn't paying very close attention, but perhaps someone else was and can answer this: Did S&W's decision to make no-lock M642's correspond with the Supreme Court's Heller decision?

As part of the Heller decision addressed keeping firearms in the home disabled, perhaps the lawyers at Smith & Wesson decided it provided them with sufficient cover to offer models with and without a lock.

BTW, the catalog number for the no lock M442 is 150544. Dealer cost is a tad less than $400. My distributor doesn't have any yet.Bob

If the rumor is true.....it's about time.

Hate to get my hopes up, but I can't help it when I see posts like this one! Wonder what they'll charge for these "new no locks" Will they require more than your arm and leg?

Makes no sense to me. I can see the lock as an issue where beauty is a concern, but with a carry gun it shouldn't matter. Just deactivate the thing and go about your business. You're gonna have to pull the sideplate anyway, unless you intend to trust your life to S&W's overly short firing pin.

My hope is Smith has figured out the lock gun is more costly to make and will drop it.

My guess is that they will only go to certain states. Those without laws mandating such locks.

No sales to Ca , NJ , MD , MA , CT , NY and other commie states.
