Russian model more history

Well, this is probably off the thread again, but I don't understand something in your letter from Roy Jinks. It is the second time this week I have seen someone say that their letter probably shipped to somewhere or someone on a date. I just checked about 20 of the letters that I have here at home right now and each says they shipped on a certain date, not probably shipped. At first I wondered if it was some new edict from the company to keep lawyers happy, but I just got my most recent letter a couple of months ago and it doesn't say probably. I guess I should ask Roy about this on the S&WCA section. I am kind of hoping that some of you will check your factory letters to see if it occurs often and I just got lucky.

Cflier, I will take this up by letter, but in the mean time if you can come up with anything via SWCA it would be much appreciated. I do understand some of the shipping records for the period involved involving calibers and serial numbers are somewhat confused according to Pates book.

Ballarat, that probably explains it then. The other gun was a Russian also. I have 2 letters that say the address of the original owner is unreadable, but thats a differant thing.

I am looking for info on a 44 cal. Russian Revolver!

Please see attached photo. I have looked and looked on the net and not found anything matching this. It is so worn there is no serial number to be found anywhere. The only markings I can find are right below the revolving chamber, on the left side of the frame is "44 cal." on the bottom of the butt has a FP and on the other end if the butt is stamped what looks like a 3 didget number. Under the grips are no numbers, but 5 heavy scratch marks on the frame. Also, stamped on the bullet chamber,seen as you open to load, is a Y with a star above it. And a circle with and E in the top part of the circle, an LG in the middle, and a star at the bottom. There are a couple of other markings that are hard to make out. It has a 6 inch barrel.

ELG in a circle is a Belgian proof mark, so I would presume this one of the Belgiam copies of the S&W Russian Model.

Gday CaptainChris, I go with deadin on this one, its a copy of a 3rd model Russian with the Ordinetz designed frame but not of S&W make, they did not mark the calibre on the guns at that time. Obviously no markings on the barrel rib which S&W did with patent dates etc and model e..g RUSSIAN MODEL. This told the buyer that it was in 44 Russian cal. Cannot help you with the other markings. Interesting piece.
