Russia's 'Pearl Harbor'

Is it just me? Or does it seem like this war will keep going for a long time.
February 23rd 2022 was when I posted about the first acts of the Russian invasion. The thread lasted until that September when the mods finally lost patience with certain agents provocateur.

All talk….

Folks who haven't been there grossly underestimate how many thousands of Americans and Europeans are there, helping with food, shelter, medicine, emergency services (especially emergency medicine and TCCC), emergency utility repair, communication, fire response, battlefield forensics, weapons manufacturing, and a host of other critical functions. Many are too old for military service and/or don't have combat skills.

Just talk? Depends on who you are.

Be aware that the pro-Putin Georgia Dream party, which seized power in Georgia in fraudulent elections which are still being contested in the streets and the courts, has the State Security Service of Georgia detaining returning Georgian volunteers for Ukrainian military service as 'terrorists.' They can get released, but not quickly.

This really shows the depth of puti's mental state. The ordnance used in these attacks, esp. missiles are expensive and finite. All to kill 3 civilians. Not a war winning strategy.

I would not be laughing if we look at this long term. I have a long multi page explanation why but the TLDR is that we should be scared of north koreans not laughing at them.
My TL;DR version is that they have a huge army, a lot of weapons, and a nutjob for a leader. History shows that this is not a good combination for a quiet life.

A question for those much more knowledgeable than me: How does this war get ended? Do either of these combatants (Putin and Zelenskeyy) have a serious interest in ending it or are the conditions each would demand just too far apart?
I have studied this situation, war, with great interest and depth and conclude that Russia views the threat from Ukraine and NATO, USA is an existential one, and Russia will do all that is needed to assure their very own existence. This is almost exactly as the USA viewed the existence of Soviet rockets in Cuba, nuclear capable, during the JFK Cuban crisis where the USA was willing to go to nuclear war over the threat. Russia does not want or need ALL of Ukraine, just the threat to its existence ended and WW-3 can be avoided. Peace is very possible.

Any Russian aircraft or tank the Ukrainians destroy is that many that NATO doesn't have to face one day. And it helps to postpone that day until a later time. They can destroy the entire Russian strategic bomber fleet as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I hope they do! (And this comes from a former B-52 guy!)
B-52 guy, tell me, who was flying, owning, building the famed and spectacular USS Nimitz Encounter with the "TicTac's"? They were real solid, and amazing, that is what we must be worried about!

I'd have to see Russia give nuclear war a try before I'll believe they do more than bluff with nukes. Besides, one leg of their nuclear triad, strategic bombers, is now 30% smaller. 😀

Both the UK and France have their own nukes that don't need to travel far.
And, that is a big part of the problem that if it continues will kill us all. I don't want that to happen just because NATO and the USA have decided to encircle Russia and use Ukraine as a battering ram for their own selfish interests.

There's a magnificent bridge (the Victory Bridge over the Hrazdan River) in Yerevan, Armenia that was built by German POWs under Soviet control. None of the POWs were returned to Germany. Not one.
The USA people have NEVER experienced what the NAZI Germany army inflicted upon the people of the Soviet Union during WW-2. I dare say that the USA people, if they experienced in WW-2 what the Russian people did at the hand of the Germans, would have done the same to the POW's as in your example.

We are talking about modern day Russia, NOT the old Soviet Union. Russians are very patriotic and love their country and refer to it to this day as the "Mother Land".
Couple things. One, he said "historically". That does not imply the present. Also for current issues just look at Alexander Litvinenko. He fled Russia in the year 2000. By 2006 the Russians had killed him. Saying the serial killer who has you hostage is a great guy is more of a self preservation thing than approval of what he's doing.

Oh you see here you are wrong. Plenty of people in USSR remmer the "good". The way things operated was slavery by any other name. While half the country was in prison or being slaves the other half got to be "good communists" and live off the people toiling in the fields and starving and dying in the coal mineshafts and tell them how good and fair communism is.

Sort of like political patronage jobs or DEI hire or whatever you want to call it. They got government paid poets and writers and singers to tell every one how great communism was while some half starved miner was slowly dying in a coal mine from collapse due to the lack of basic safety and having to meet quotas.

People don't realized that USSR had literal slaves until 1986. You know how you see those drunk inbred looking russians with square dull faces in a lot of POW videos? People were assigned to collective farms, yes in USSR you were assigned your job you were assigned your living arrangement and you were assigned your healthcare if you had any. You needed a passport and a permission slip to rally travel anywhere or go to school outside of your area.
What did it mean in reality? The communist official of your collective farm held your passport, you could not move somewhere else and get another job because you were an "essential employee" or something along those lines. You could not go to a city and apply for a university because they communist official had your passport and you did not have the education to get into the very difficult college exams.
So they went from Tzars serfs to communist slaves stuck in the same miserable village inbreeding for centuries drinking themselves to death due to despair and depression.

But hey if you were smart and were a good communist and lucky to be born to the right family you could escape that fate.
Petrov, the old Soviet Union is gone, did you know that? Today it is Russia and far different and working to be better and better and some Governments around the globe find that very threatening and doing all they can to destroy it. :(

It would be great if we could talk about today and not the past of decades ago, yes? I mean we could go on and on about the sordid past of the USA about slaves, Indians, child labor, discriminations, Jim crow, but why do that. Today we face something far worse, nuclear destruction of the Earth.

I have read that the Ukrainians are right now using drones (air and sea) to successfully replace artillery. More accurate, longer range, and cheaper. Last week I read a neat article about the innovative and effective ways they are using drones as weapons. If I can find it, I’ll post it. Really eye-opening stuff. Sort of like when aircraft carriers made battleships obsolete and artillery replaced catapults. I think this is it. https://www.cfr.org/expert-brief/ukraines-operation-spiders-web-shows-future-drone-warfare
Let us be clear, Ukraine is working hand in hand, or some may say, collar and leash, with NATO and the USA, MI6, CIA, maybe even Mossad in its war with Russia and this is where targeting and drone tech is coming from as well as all the arms USA and NATO has given to Ukraine. A "proxy" war for sure, as Rubio has stated and admitted.
