However, all throughout this unfortunate saga one thing just sticks in the back of my mind. Was there sabotage here? Did someone deliberately load the gun with a live round?

That would be a whole new ball game. I HOPE to goodness that wasn't the case. How did the live rounds get mixed in with the dummies? If it was people fooling around with the guns on breaks, that would be typical but how could they know that wasn't the case??? The only way we 'know' that wasn't the case was that there are no charges that it happened that way, so they are pursuing negligence.

Interesting.

I had heard of a movement to "green gas" guns for movies and TV with the bangs and flashes being added in post production.

However, just like with bicycle helmets, I wonder how the movie industry went for over 100 years with so few incidents if everything was so unsafe. It not like accidental gun related deaths on movies sets are a weekly or even yearly thing.

That said, I don't make movies so I don't have a dog in the fight. Also, if good replicas are used, I doubt that many, if any, will be able to tell the difference

The NYT article was indeed interesting. However, I note citations of numerous folks who feel the proper reaction is NOT to establish proper controls and training of the people, but to alter the hardware. Or, replace it with CGI. Unfortunately typical.
