Didn't want to hijack the thread about aluminum cased .45acp
ammo but sgammo has S&B brass cased .45acp 230 gr FMJ
for $249.80 per 1000 rds. This is less than their prices for
aluminum cased .45. Anyone have any experience with S&B .45,
any chronograph results?

It has been quite a few years since I have shot this ammo. it wasn't the highest velocity ammo but seemed to shoot ok. if I remember Cabela's had it for around $14 a box of 50. I haven't seen any of it at Cabela's for several years. Cabela's has the Sig hardball for $19 a box so that is what I shoot and it is pretty good ammo

HK compact 3.80 inch barrel 757 fps average
S & W 1911 5 inch barrel 814 fps average
Kimber compact sst 4 inch barrel 748 fps average
Ruger Blackhawk 4.625 barrel 794 fps average

I can't say that I have experience with their aluminum cases stuff but I shoot a lot of their brass cased 230-gr stuff and have never had any trouble. I prefer it to some of the more common US made stuff these days.

Ditto what Valmet said. I have shot a lot of it in the past, though I roll my own now.

Haven't tried the 45 acp but have shot both 9mm 124 and 180 40sw. Both shot well and the brass reloads well. I am looking at picking up some in 45 acp to replenish my brass supply

Never chrono-ed it, but I have shot a couple of boxes of it within the last 6 months or so. Every round went bang, cycled the action, and made a hole in the paper with 3 different pistols.

Several years ago Winchester was reported to have contracted with S&B to help produce some of their USA line in .45ACP. This was back when ammo was severely back-ordered, even for most LE agencies, and everyone was having a hard time getting anything.

We ended up getting a shipment of USA .45 that had 2 plastic trays of 25rds in each 50rd box, which was supposedly the S&B stuff.

All I remember about it was that it smelled funny when you shot it, and the muzzle blast and recoil impulse could sometimes be a bit variable from one round to the next. Other than that, I don't remember any particular problems when using it as training/qual ammo.

I've only shot one box of S&B .45, and that was a long time ago.

But I've reloaded with a bunch of their .45 ACP brass, and it's good stuff.

Today, I shot 400 rounds of S&B 230 grain FMJ through my SA RO and I can report I didn't have any malfunctions, and the accuracy and recoil was on par with other commercial ammo I shoot. I am going to investigate the deal that the OP posted as it sounds pretty good. Also, I didn't notice any funny smells , dirtiness or anything out of the ordinary.

My only experience with S&B 45 ACP has been with reloading the brass. I found S&B brass to have really tight primer pockets. At first, I thought perhaps the factory primers had been swaged, but a close look revealed no evidence of swaging, the pockets were slightly smaller in diameter than most other brands of brass.

Just purchased 1,000 rounds of S&B 45 today localy for $237! I had to pay tax, but that was still cheaper than shipping cost from an out of state vendor. I will be heading to the range tomorrow and hopefully firing 300 to 400 rounds through my Shield 45 and SA RO Compact.

Interesting. Never had that problem with S&B, but Hornady .45 cases are always tight.

I have used there 45acp ball ammo and it works well in my Springfield XD, seems to be very clean, I reload the brass for my target loads and the primer pockets do seem a bit tighter than my WW and other US brass. S&B seems to make a quality product.

Totally agree.. I like them for that fact, best with Winchester Primers as Win seem smaller than others so they work out fine, but you have to be careful not to smash a primer trying to seat it.

I purchased 500 rounds of S&B brass cased 230 grain 45 ball. I had about 12 failures to fire on the first try out of those 500. All went bang on the second try.

These were fired in guns that never exhibited any problems with any other brand/round, including a PC Shorty 45 MKII. FWIW. Regards 18DAI

I ran into this problem many years ago with S&B .38 special brass. The primers would either be crushed on seating or the edges would be shaved by the primer pockets. After that, I discarded S&B brass.
