Took down my 28-2 from 1979 the hand is marked with S never saw this before any ideas ?

Marked as "stainless".
These "S" markings also appear on rebound slides, the rear face of cylinders, stainless grip frames, thumbpieces, bolts and sears. (and probably other things I've forgotten)

They also had S marked mainsprings that didn't work very well. The carbon steel ones are very high quality, though.
