Post war K-22. On the underside of the barrel where the ser # is there is also an ".s" some distance away (not next to ser #). Could anybody tell what this indicates? The "s" is not on the bottom of the grip. Thanks

I've looked at a couple of my own post-war K22's; about all I see under the barrel flat is a "K" and then the rest of the serial number. On my pre-war K22's,and some other K-frames there is a "B", but no "S's" to be found. Perhaps a photo would help to clear up the mystery. -S2

Here's a pic from GB item #156583404. Scroll down to the last picture and the ser # and the "s" are shown clearly on the underside of the barrel.

I suspect that S is for "Service Dept".

It was possibly rebarreled before being shipped, but I also suspect a refinish at the factory.
I would definitely check the grip frame for a date and possible refinish marks.

Lee is right. The "S" stamp usually means that the gun had a problem somewhere in production and it was sent to the Service dep't to correct whatever was the problem and it was corrected and the "S" stamp so indicates. Ed #15

Thanks Lee and Opoefc. I checked the book and didn't see anything about it. It would seem like it does refer to barrel work as the "s" is not stamped on the frame or cylinder.
