HEllo all,

I checked out one of these today at a local shop and wondered a few things. It was a 8" or so with full lug & the rubber S&W grips
1. Are these good revolvers?
2. Where is the serial # located?
Thanks Guys...I enjoy the forum!

FWIW, I have a Classic Hunter which is similar to the Classic, and I have enjoyed the gun since the day I bought it.

The serial number is located on the butt of the grip frame and the yoke cut.

Ok, I think I have an idea...kind of the arm that holds the cylinder?

Well, the only number I saw there was a 3 digit number and it looked laser cut or something...but it was low, so I didnt figure it was the SN.
Thanks

The serial # may also be laser marked on the bottom side of the top strap. It's probably a 29-5 or 29-6 and they are some of the most accurate S&W 44 mags I own.
It also has the quick change front sight and is factory drilled and tapped for scope base mounting.

Lynnie informed me that my 29-4is a classic hunter. Full lug barrel, unfluted cylinder, and hogue grips.Got a super deal in Reno several years ago, $410 NIB back in "98". I use disposeable propane bottles at 100yds for targets. GOTTA LUV IT!!!

recently I bought a 29-10 in a four inch barrel.
the pistol shoots just fine.
Negatives?
It ain't one of the older ones. Crush fit barrel, still don't know if i like the idea.
trigger lock, it's gonna go.
and where the ejector rod shroud mates up to the frame you can see space between it and the frame. Doesn't effect anything, but owning a number of older smiths, can't quite say it is the same. Other than the fact it was basically free from cabella's points, I would have most definitely bought an older one

I might add, I changed out the cheesy grips and put on some decelerator grips, and the front sight is now a hiviz sight from the 329pd.

New to the forum and the S&W world. I just purchased a 29-6 Classic, manufacture year 1995 and can't wait to get it (few days background check in California). 5 inch barr, hogue factory grips, didn't come with a box or manual, but the gun is in pristine conditions.
Will post pics once its in my hands.
