S prefix question

As I understand it all post war N frame targets had S prefix serialization. Is there anyway to know how many pre 27 or pre 24 were made? Thanks!

In the words of Carl Sagen; Billions and Billions. Kidding aside, I don't believe there is an accurate answer to your question. S&W probably couldn't answer it.

Per the information provided in "History of Smith & Wesson" by Roy Jinks, S&W produced 5050 1950 44 Target revolvers before dropping this model from their line of firearms in 1966. Of these, 99++% were pre-model 24s. There is no published answer on the number of pre-27s, but only to say it is much, much higher.
