Well after loving the CS45, I stumbled across a fairly mint 1066 that a older gent wanted to get rid of. Struck a deal for $450 for it. Now, Im looking for a few spare mags as it only came with 2. Does anyone know what other S&W 3rd Gen 10mm mags will work in the 1066? Any help will be greatly appreciated on this!
Thanks All!!! :)

S&W made just six models of 10mm pistols and all have full size frames and use the same magazine, a single stack that holds 9rds. Often referred to as the 1006 magazine... the same magazine fits the 1006, 1026, 1046, 1066, 1076 and 1086 pistols.

You got a great price on that 1066...

As for obtaining the additional mags, the 1006 mags have become very difficult to find at a reasonable price after S&W discontinued them.

Be prepared for prices ranging between $75 - $100+ per mag on the online auction sites.

Did I read that correctly? You got a 1066 for $450? I am in awe of you sir! Everyone's right about the mags, though I think $100 is a bit high. It is possible to get the different parts from Brownells and Numrich and assemble your own. Mixed availability on the parts and people snatch up the hard to get ones when they do come available. I've got most of what I need to put five together and I will have ended up spending about $56 per mag.

Mags aren't cheap, but you're into the gun for a low enough price that you would be able to pick up a couple mags and still be sitting good on overall cost.

Wow! That is beyond amazing!

Where do you find these "older gents" willing to sell their highly-desirable mint 3rd Gens for half their value?

I desperately need to go there! :D

You got a tremendous deal, just wow . Mags can be "built" by getting everything from gunpartscorp.com and Midway.
The mag catch plates are the hardest part, but not impossible to obtain.

Congrats on getting that dirt cheap of a deal on a 10mm 3rd Gen.

The July 1989 Shooting Times introduced the 1006, and it states that the 1006 used modified .45 ACP mags. When I still had my 1006 i was tempted to 'sacrifice' a 4506 mag to see if it could be duplicated in the garage. I found spare 10mm mags and the 4506 mag was spared.

. . .

Ladder13 is correct about the mag catch plates. In a pinch, however, you can use a 4500 series catch plate (much easier to find). The length is fine, but you will need to file each side (to keep it even) of the catch plate to fit the 10mm width. ;)

I know because I've done it. I even polished and use a touch of 44/40 Blue on the sides that I filed. However, it really wasn't necessary . . . but I'm a bit obsessive that way.

Unfortunately, the "build it from parts" approach doesn't really save that much money over a decent deal in the forum classifieds... especially if you are only looking for a small number of them... but if your only other option is buying off that crazy big auction site at top dollar, I say do it! :D

Damn you stole that. Wish I could have gotten mine for that price!

The July 1989 Shooting Times introduced the 1006, and it states that the 1006 used modified .45 ACP mags.

The original 1006 prototype was built on a 4506 frame & thus had a 45ACP size mag-well. The production 1006s have a smaller mag-well (& magazine) & therefore will not accommodate a 45ACP magazine.

I'm afraid you'd have to do some serious modifications, beyond adding indents. 4506 mags won't fit in a 1006 as is.
(the 4506 mag-well width, at the frame/slide rails, is wider than the 1006 (.575" vs .532")

After I made my 1013 (from a 4013) I experimented with using the all steel frame of my 4516 with the 1013/4013 upper. Even though the 45ACP magazine of the 4516 is ~.040" wider than a 10mm magazine the 10mm rounds fed & extracted fine (from the 1016) during my brief testing.

Mating a 10xx upper with a 45xx lower is likely the only way you'll get to use 45ACP mags instead of 10mm mags.

.

Congrats Sundog22 on your excellent find!

Well... if you want to LIVE on the classifieds board. A quick search turned up a post from some years ago.

$59/each from parts is bad enough... :(

That crazy big auction site has some for $150 each... BUT... they are polished!

Wow! You stole that from that old man, congratulations! However, I have you beat, I paid $350 for mine with 2 mags in mint condition, no box or papers. Here's my 1066 I completely disassembled it and replaced all the springs with "Wolf" springs and polished all internals, and made some improvements on the factory finish, I hate that ugly bead blast all over, but I left some of it for contrast. You can see in the last photo I also replaced the bob hammer with a spurred hammer. In comparison to my "mint factory" 1077 it feels like greased snot on a wet slate driveway in single and double action with about a 2.5-3lb trigger, I'm extremely happy with the end results, in fact, it got some holster time yesterday.
