While I'm new to the forum, I'd like to add another perspective from the standpoint of those wanting to jump in now-a-days.
True enough, availability and condition are the key bits. Followed by desire. It seems high on the surface, so assign a value and doesnt hurt to offer. Who knows.
But will say prices are on the up lately.
With Sig committing to 10mm and the Colt DE coming back into production, there is a resurgence that has brought that cartridge more mainstream over the Glock only days. References to Gen 3 10mm are getting made in some of the reviews, and that is putting them on the radar of folks that never knew the existed. Demand up...Supply of pristine nowhere.
There are 3 price points
1. Forum market price
2. Backwoods gunstore with no online presense
3. Everywhere else (GB and LGS that have internet connections)
Forums are notorious for best prices, but anything that is a 'good deal' is generally snapped up in minutes. You have the most competition for values buys here. Its all good folks say you should only pay XXX, but you could wait for years for the perfect storm. Luck vs Reality, though the perfect storm can happen.
Option 2...100% luck.
3, unfortunately more reality than folks like to admit. As disliked as GB may be, its a good way to judge the ceiling and average prices if you are not charmed enough to happen to see the classified post in the first 30 seconds.
IMO, taking average prices for the condition you are looking for, throwing out the oddball outlier high and lows, is more true market.
A very nice one, LNIB is $1000 to $1300 easily there. The demand is there to support it. Taking of a bit for box and missing mag ($70 - $80), plus any wear you find on closer inspection gives a good base for an offer if you want it.
