I have been thinking that I may get another S&W autoloader.
After looking at the new S&Ws, I believe the .40 cal. would be the best.
After doing more research, I saw that the 10mm and the .40 are kissing cousins.
I know that this has been discussed before, but is there any way to have one autoloader with a conversion to have both the 10mm and .40cal.?

The 10mm is based on a .45 framed gun where the .40 is on the smaller 9mm framed gun. 10mm guns can cycle the shorter .40 caliber bullets and a barrel swap will usually work on most of them. A lot of guys that use 40 in 10mm platforms do load their rounds long to improve cycling.

Bar-Sto use to make conversion barrels for the 3rd generation S&W's
I managed to aquire Bar-Sto match grade 40S&W and 9x25Dillon conversion barrels, after hand fitting them to my S&W1006, these have been great additions to add to the flexability of this platform! :)

You can drop a .40 barrel into a 10mm Glock without any alterations, if that what you are asking. However, having owned both, the extra weight of a S&W 10mm makes taming a full power 10mm much easier.

Thanks for all the input............
Looks as if I should just look for a S&W 10mm and forget the .40.
Any suggestions?

1076, it's still a big gun, but not impossible to carry if that's a consideration. The others are great range guns, but huge guns.

I absolutely love my 10mm's, but be sure you reload, if not, unless you are well off, they are a bear to feed. .40 is much cheaper to own.

The other point I would say if you buy a 10mm, you'll need to load it with Double Tap, Underwood etc. Most of the major factory loads for 10mm are loaded down to strong .40 level, which defeats the purpose of owning a 10mm.

StatsRightist,
I don't mind a large gun as I don't plan to carry.
I live in California and it's too big a hassle.
I just wanted a S&W auto in a larger caliber and the 10mm caught my eye.
I wouldn't even mind the longer 5" barrel model if I could find one.
Thanks..........Daryl
