S&W 14 FIVE INCH

Never seen a Model 14 5". Has it been cut down from the original 6" barrel?

Any idea what a 14 five inch is worth?

Somewhere between $300 for a well-worn but serviceable example with a non-factory cut 6" barrel . . . and $1,500 for a pristine, as-new example in the original box.

There is considerable information available from members on this forum but we need more information and pictures if possible to give you an informed opinion . . . as discussed in replies to your October 5th post.

If you're having difficulty posting pictures, send me a PM and I'll give you my email address to send the pictures and I'll post them here for you.

SCSW states they made 5" and they are worth a premium. I don't think I've ever seen one.

The 5" guns were build for the IL State Police as an optional gun and used mostly by their Bullseye team members, a 5" heavy barrel. The Mo State Police also had 5" standard barrel K38's. A very few over run guns were sold commercially.

Thjis is one of the IL State Police guns, vintage 1957, it is a 4 screw gun.

This is a 5" model 14 no dash 4 screw frame.
Factory letter states it left the factory April 1959 along with 2 other identical guns.
The finish is a deep high polish blue and I believe the stocks to be Walnut.
I Would love to know where the other two guns are at.

My 5" 14-2 was one of two in a special order in November of 1962. Considering how few were special ordered outside of the two police orders it is really hard to put a price on these revolvers. Even with photo's I think pricing these guns comes down to agreement between buyer and seller.

Depends upon condition and if it is a cut-down 6 inch barrel, a re-barrel, or if someone is just measuring from the front of the revolver's frame to the muzzle.

I agree with that statement. My gun is in the same boat. If I wanted to sell it I have no idea where to start, but guarantee the price would dissuade the casual buyer.

I paid over $1500 for my ISP 5" with box in 99% condition well over ten years ago. It lettered. Guy I bought it from in Texas sent me one of the others, maybe 90%, and I returned it. He asked $850 so I wanted to see it.
Weren't the others Kansas? I forget, but the condition and box made a lot of difference even back then.

Don't plan on selling it, but it would start at 2K or more if I did.

I also needed a 5" K-38 Pre 14 to finish a collection, which really makes a difference.
