S&W 1891 set

Well don't just show it to us my man---tell us about it!

Is it a for real combination set--or a put-together---or a little of each? And if you don't know for sure, tell us the serial number(s), and we'll tell you (We'll tell you what the book says anyway---which may or may not be all there is to tell.). Or maybe you're already way ahead of us. If that's the case, tell us what the letter has to say.

Many thanks!!

I like it, but I do not believe the case was something the company used. May well be a distributor's presentation case. The Model 1891 Combination sets were supposedly wood, with chamois leather liner, at least that is what most references say. I believe they all contained a sight adjustment tool as well.

A few years ago, I bought my first Model 1891, it was a nice target revolver. Propperts was selling original in-the-white single-shot barrels so I picked up what was advertised as a 38 S&W. Turned out to be a 38-44 Target chamber. Who knows why it was done, but since these barrels were leftovers from the factory, my guess was someone did some experimenting at work.

Best part was the gun lettered as shipping in April, 1907 to a Fred J. Korges. Ancestry.com research quickly found only one Fred Korges who would have been an adult when the gun was shipped and his middle initial was "J"! He was born in Germany in 1869, imigrated as a youth with his parents and lived his life in and around Lavaca County, Texas and died in Victoria, Texas in 1949.

I put together a case made from an old silverware case and have fun taking it to the range and shooting both the revolver and the 38-44 Target single barrel.

The revolvers are pretty cool.
I just bought one off GB where there were several for sale.
You don't see them often

I think glowe is correct. I don't remember all the particulars. I got a Jenks letter at the time. All were from 1903 and shipped to a distributor in KS. The case did say Smith and Wesson.
Thanks for the replies. Sorry I don't get on here more often.
