Hello all ! A recent new forum member here. Having been a 1911 fan for many years, I thought I would give the Smith 1911 a whirl. I've owned about every 1911 there is at one time or another. The 108284 that I purchased seemed to offer quite a bit for the money, and as I am a lefty, I really appreciated the ambi controls. As it has been a while since I've had a new Smith, I am curious as to whether I have made a wise purchase or not. Any feed back is appreciated.

I'm a southpaw also. That's why I purchased my 4566 (ambi-safety). I don't have a 1911 yet, but it's on my short list. And Smith & Wesson is leading the charge. I've heard good and bad about a lot of 1911's, but nothing bad about the Smiths. As a matter of fact, A kimber dealer advised me to look at the Smith, Sig, or Taurus, over the Kimber. But, a 1911 needs to be American made, so the Taurus and Sig are out of the running.

Let us know how it shoots and post a few pics when you get a chance.

I believe the S&W line of 1911s are the best for the money out there now if you don't want a real Colt or you cannot afford a Springfield Custom or Les Baer. You cannot go wrong.

I have two Les Baers, but when my son goes shooting with me he'll grab my S&W 1911 every time. :) GREAT guns (even when you can "afford a Springfield or Les Baer").

I love mine. I have the blued version with wood grips, no forward slide serrations and the single guide rod. Great looking pistol and it's more accurate than I am. I get a lot of compliments on it at the range too.

I've had my 108284 for about a year & love it as is. No issues with any kind of .45 ACP ammo. I dont understand why some will buy a 1911 & spend a small fortune to 'make it better'. S&W 1911's are great right out of the box.
