I saw this mentioned somewhere under rumors of what they are planning for 2009. Has anyone heard any more about this, or is it just vaporware?

I think we would all enjoy more 1911 trigger time at 9mm prices...

Sgt Preston here. Springfield Armory offers a 1911 in 9mm. It's one of their "loaded series" of 1911 pistols. It SS & comes with an adjustable "target" sight, a 2 piece guide rod & a list of goodies. I owned it 45ACP twin brother & a friend of mine had the 9mm. Both guns were excellent. I hope that S&W puts onre on the market, because I'll certainely consider buying one. Sgt Preston USMC LLA.

I have 2 of these Springfields. Nice guns. One is a target model (adjustable sights). The other has Novak sights. Took about a year to actually find one locally. I happened upon the target version in a local shop and let it sit for about 2 weeks before deciding to grab it for a little over $800. A few months later, I happened upon the fixed sighted gun that was considerably older but in LN shape, so I picked that one up to. I'd love to see S&W come out with one. I done with 1911s for now. A S&W marked one would cause me to rethink that.

Any idea on how many rounds the S&W will hold? Same weight/dimensions as a regular .45?

Sounds interesting...

My new Wilson ETM and Metalform 9mm mags hold 10 rds and work reliably in my 9mm Kimber--but I will def buy a 9mm Smith 1911 if/when available--dmd

Just imagine--a factory bob-tail alloy/stainless 9mm commander 4.25" w/o FPS from Smith--now wouldn't that be super sweet!! Or visualize a 9mm "Gunsite" edition-- dmd

I hope they do build it ... I have 3 Colts and a Wilson in 9mm and would love a S&W. 9mm 1911;s are just fun.

Seems to me that a full-house capable 10mm would be a better choice... Maybe that's just my hand-cannon side speaking.
