I just ordered a S&W 22-A and would like info. about mounting a scope on it.

What type of rings/mount do I need?

What would be a decent scope, not breaking the bank, would you suggest?

Thanks very much!

Well any set of rings that fit the Weaver Rails. I got an NcStar from optic's planet they work great on the rim fires and one 357 I have. They be cheap Chinese stuff, but what isn't these days. I bet they make scope for half the brands out there, and at $49 shipped they are hard to beat. However that's not to say I would not rather have a Leupold, but for a plinking rimfire not even.

Here's mine with a RedDot:

I have identical Millet Red dots on the S&W 22A & Ruger 22/45 below and 22A shoots groups 1/2 the size the Ruger. Ruger has complete Volquartsen trigger group with zero creep or over travel and 3/4 lb trigger pull, along with the Volquartsen extractor and all Wolff springs and custom grips to no avail. I keep telling myself it's the loose nut behind grps, but....

I put a BSA 2-7x variable on my 22A. I've only had it out once, but my son and I put a half dollar size hole in the target at 25 yds after sighting in. I got it from Optics Planet with rings for about $115 with free shipping. I would suggest getting high rings, the medium provided very limited adjustment in working around the existing rear sight. So far, I am happy with the set up.
